Job Description

The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and carry out decontamination procedures.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand and execute all physicians' orders accurately.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, and handle specimens as required by test orders.
• Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature.
• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Wear appropriate attire.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Handle telephone inquiries and read laboratory results when necessary.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood drawing techniques.
• Experience with straight needle techniques.
• 2-3 years of experience in drawing blood.
• Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in infant draws is a plus.
• Experience with pediatric blood draws is beneficial.

Work Environment

This position offers the opportunity for in-state travel and provides a change of scenery. The job does not require work during holidays or vacations. There are two openings with the following schedules: Monday-Friday 9am-5:30pm with every other Saturday 9am-1pm, and Monday-Friday 8am-1pm with every Saturday 9am-2pm, with potential for additional hours.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Peekskill, NY.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
