Research Assistant

Job Summary This research assistant position is at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts and will involve performing behavioral neuroscience and pharmacology studies in laboratory animals. Responsibilities include conducting daily experiments in behavioral neuroscience and pharmacology using neurochemical assays to determine how drugs and/or environmental stressors induce changes in brain neurotransmitters, complex behavior and cognitive assays to characterize how psychoactive drugs and/or environmental stressors impact neurobehavioral processes, and physiological assays to determine how drugs and/or environmental stressors alter biological activity. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn a variety of complex neurochemical, behavioral, and cognitive assays in laboratory animals, drug preparation and administration protocols, in vivo microdialysis techniques, and stereotaxic surgery skills. They will be responsible for analyzing data using computer‑based statistics/graphics programs and preparing reports of results. Responsibilities Conduct routine experiments in behavioral neuroscience and pharmacology, performing neurochemical, behavioral, cognitive, and physiological assays. Prepare drugs and administer them to laboratory animals according to established protocols. Perform in vivo microdialysis and stereotaxic surgery techniques. Analyze data with computer‑based statistics/graphics programs. Prepare reports of results. Assist with clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols. Recruit and evaluate potential study patients. Conduct telephone interviews, schedule study visits, and perform clinical symptom rating scales. Interact with patients/subjects, provide education, procedural instructions, and follow‑up. Serve as liaison between patients and physicians when required. Collect and maintain patient data in the study database. Input data, run analyses, and generate reports. Maintain records and archives of patient information. Mail study information or packets to participants. Answer phone calls and inquiries regarding study protocol. Refer participants to supervisor or clinical staff when appropriate. Monitor and set up required equipment. Maintain inventory and order supplies as necessary. Preferred Education A bachelor’s degree in behavioral neuroscience, pharmacology, experimental psychology, or a biological sciences field. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree required. No experience in lieu of a degree is accepted. Experience working with digital mental health tools or skills such as app development, programming, data analytics, and visualization (preferred, but not mandatory). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills, professionalism, and respect for subjects’ rights and needs. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to follow and perform clinical research protocols. Knowledge of basic computer programs and computer skills for communication, clinical, and administrative purposes. Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks. Careful attention to detail. Additional Job Details Remote Type: Onsite. Work Location: 115 Mill Street.
