The incumbent makes recommendations for rehabilitation plans, treatment, conditional release, and education and employment stipulations. Job Description Case Management, Referrals, Recommendations and Assessment Initiate contact with youth, families, victims and law enforcement when referrals are received. Conduct home and school visits for information gathering and family involvement. Obtain and review collateral information: abuse and neglect history, education, mental health, substance use, gang activity, and other pertinent data from collaborating agencies. Administer and document FDJJ screening instruments to assess youth risk, needs, protective factors, and required evaluations. Screening tools include: Detention Screening Risk Assessment (DRAI) Suicide Risk Screening Instrument (SRSI) Department approved risk/needs screening and assessment instruments Case plan Pre‑Post Disposition Report Adult Sentencing Summary Report Progress (Status) Report Electronic Commitment Packet Termination of Supervision Formulate case management strategies based on assessments to address youth and family needs. Make service referrals and follow up on required actions. Recommend supervision and treatment plans to the State Attorney and judicial partners, ensuring appropriate services with minimal intrusion. Court Process Represent the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) during court hearings to support departmental recommendations. Prepare and maintain current social histories, court reports, referral letters, and related correspondence. Testify and prepare affidavits/petitions for violation of probation when necessary. Request hearings when appropriate. Case Management, Interventions & Supervision Complete risk and needs assessments using approved instruments for all supervised youth. Conduct face‑to‑face contacts in homes, schools, and community settings, including non‑traditional hours. Maintain communication throughout youth and family involvement phases, gaining knowledge of residential, family, school, and community environments. Assist youth with mental health and substance abuse evaluations, arranging specialized testing and treatment as needed. Support school enrollment and after‑school programs; verify attendance, performance, and behavior. Provide crisis intervention and referrals, ensuring follow‑up. Collaborate with youth to set personal goals, maintain skills, and discuss progress, sanctions, and anticipated termination dates. Address concerns and risks with unit supervisor; determine interventions for violations using the Effective Response Matrix. Conduct staffing when benchmarks occur, milestones are achieved, or cases become complex. Participate in transition and exit planning for youth pending release, including referrals for post‑residential services. Records Management Enter all case management activities, risk/needs screenings, assessments, and case planning into the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS). Upload required forms/documents into the JJIS case file for accurate, timely records. Community Collaboration Maintain familiarity with community resources, provide input on service delivery issues, and support grant proposals when requested. Attend professional development trainings and meetings. Follow all departmental policies, procedures, and administrative rules. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of case management practices, interviewing, and counseling techniques. Knowledge of computer programs. Ability to make recommendations concerning delinquent youth handling. Ability to develop case plans and communicate effectively. Ability to determine work priorities. Ability to establish effective working relationships with community and judicial partners to share information and promote safe, nurturing communities. Independently interpret individual analysis; strong verbal and written communication; conduct and document interviews. Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of experience directly with adolescents in criminal justice, social services, or education. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher *or* associate degree plus two (2) years of relevant experience. Certification as a State of Florida Juvenile Probation Officer. Experience as a volunteer or intern with the Department of Juvenile Justice or a social service agency. Concentration in social sciences, social work, sociology, psychology, or related disciplines. Special Notes Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications throughout employment. Position may require non‑traditional hours, including weekends and evenings. All candidates subject to sex‑offender check, criminal background checks, and pre‑employment drug screening. Valid driver’s license required; Florida residents must obtain within 30 days if hired with out‑of‑state license. Driver must have a 3‑year acceptable driving record. Must be certified in accordance with State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice direct‑care training policy or obtain within 180 days. Non‑resident direct‑care workers must pass the Ergometric IMPACT Assessment and Training Test within 6 months of initial testing. Minimum age: 19 years. High school graduate or equivalent. No felony or certain misdemeanor convictions since September 30, 1999. Compliance with fingerprinting and background investigation requirements.
