Operating Room RN

Job Summary:

The Operating Room Registered Nurse is responsible for initiating and implementing a plan of care for surgical patients based on medical, surgical, and nursing diagnoses. This role involves monitoring patient status, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, maintaining a sterile environment, and ensuring patient safety throughout surgical procedures. The nurse supervises personnel and manages supplies and equipment in the Operating Room, providing high-quality nursing care in a fast-paced surgical setting. Responsibilities:

• Assess and monitor the physical status of patients undergoing surgery.
• Collect and record patient data through interviews, observation, and diagnostic results.
• Plan and deliver nursing care tailored to the surgical procedure and patient needs.
• Maintain a sterile field and anticipate equipment and supply needs before surgery.
• Evaluate nursing interventions and revise care plans as necessary.
• Supervise care provided to patients in the Operating Room unit.
• Coordinate with other departments and ancillary personnel to ensure patient safety and quality care.
• Manage patient safety, supplies, and asepsis in the Operating Room.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, changes in patient status, and unusual occurrences.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of California.
• American Heart Association BLS certification.
• American Heart Association ACLS certification.
• Minimum of two years of experience in an Operating Room setting.
• Ability to work effectively with patients, physicians, peers, and ancillary departments.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Cerner electronic health record experience.
• CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification.
• Experience with Orthopedics (Arthrex, DePuy, Synthes), general surgery, and ENT procedures.

Special Considerations:

• Call coverage required: one call shift per week from 7:30 PM to 7:00 AM, scheduled immediately following a shift.
• Must maintain a sterile environment and adhere to strict aseptic techniques.
• Comfortable working in a high-acuity surgical environment with variable cases.
• Housing availability may be provided depending on availability, within walking distance to the hospital.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour varied shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, including holidays and weekends.
• Call shifts are scheduled immediately following regular shifts on a weekly basis.
