Human Resources Generalist
Chief of Staff Kansas City
Chief of Staff is partnering with a growing company headquartered in North Kansas City, MO to place an experienced Human Resources Generalist. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for an HR professional who can own multi-state payroll end-to-end while supporting a broad range of HR functions including benefits, onboarding, employee relations, and compliance. The ideal candidate brings strong technical payroll expertise, a sharp eye for detail, and a customer-service mindset, all within a fast-paced, people-centered environment. Schedule: Full-time; flexibility during payroll cycles, year-end, and open enrollment Experience Required: 5+ years progressive HR experience; 3+ years end-to-end payroll processing Certifications (Preferred): SHRM-CP, PHR, FPC, or CPP Key Responsibilities Payroll Administration Own and process bi-weekly, multi-state U.S. and Canadian payroll from start to finish Maintain and audit payroll data: new hires, terminations, pay adjustments, deductions, garnishments, and direct deposits Reconcile time and attendance data; resolve discrepancies with managers and employees Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local wage and hour laws and tax regulations Manage payroll tax filings, remittances, and government reporting obligations Support year-end processes including W-2s, 1099s, and T2200s Respond to employee payroll inquiries with accuracy and urgency HR Operations Support full-cycle onboarding: offer letters, background checks, I-9/E-Verify, and system setup Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data across all lifecycle changes Administer employee leave programs including FMLA, state leave, PTO, and disability Support HR compliance initiatives, audits, and policy updates Benefits Administration Administer employee benefits programs: enrollments, life events, and terminations Support annual open enrollment including employee communication, system updates, and vendor coordination Reconcile benefits invoices and ensure accurate payroll deductions Assist with ACA reporting and compliance tracking Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related fie5+ years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years of hands-on, end-to-end payroll processing Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll compliance, wage and hour laws, and employment regulations Experience with HRIS/payroll platforms such as ADP, Paycom, Paylocity, Workday, or Paychex Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools Experience supporting payroll conversions or HRIS implementations strongly preferred HR or Payroll certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, FPC, or CPP) preferred Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion Core Competencies Strong ownership mindset and accountability High accuracy and data integrity standards Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment Customer-service oriented approach to HR Process improvement and problem-solving mindset What This Role Offers Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package Ownership of a critical payroll function with direct organizational impact Exposure to both U.S. and Canadian payroll and HR operations Collaborative, growth-oriented environment #J-18808-Ljbffr
