Position overview Salary range: The salary range for this position is $93,700 - $121,400. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. The position may include membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation. Position description Assistant Adjunct Professor, Department of Physiology and Biophysics The Department of Physiology & Biophysics at the University of California, Irvine is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department invites applications for a non-senate Assistant Adjunct Professor to participate in research and other academic activities as well as university and public service in an academic medical center environment. Principal Responsibilities The successful candidate manage the Lipid Nanoparticle Core Facility, interface with the UCI GMP Facility and will have the opportunity to work with a large group of scientists in the School of Medicine and across the UCI campus as well as the opportunity to develop extramurally funded research programs on the cutting edge and to provide leadership in genetic medicine and vaccine research. The Department provides excellent opportunities for research, teaching, mentorship and other academic interest opportunities to medical and graduate students, residents, fellows, and faculty. Required Qualifications The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry or a related field, and have scientific expertise in genetic medicines, and nanoparticle science. The candidate should have extensive research experience in the areas of immunology and vaccines. Demonstrated effectiveness across multiple organ systems and in collaborative educational environments. Additional highly desirable qualifications include experience in the biophysics and formulation of liposomes and lipid nanoparticles, including the construction of mRNA and DNA lipid nanoparticle systems for gene delivery and expression in cultured cells and in vivo. The ideal candidate should also have expertise in characterizing the bioavailability and biodistribution of synthetic nanoparticle gene delivery systems in vivo, as well as prior experience supervising graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and providing training, consultation, and service support to others. Preferred qualifications include a strong publication record in high-impact journals, expertise in both technological developments and biological and biomedical applications, effective communication, interpersonal, writing skills, and commitment to teaching and mentoring.
