Position Summary

The Collections Specialist I coordinates collection efforts for the loan and deposit portfolio. This position partners with lenders and branches regarding past due accounts, works with attorneys regarding bankruptcies and garnishments, and assigns accounts for repossession. The Collections Specialist I reports to the Consumer & Small Business Credit Administration and Collections Manager and provides excellent service and support to customers and teammates while demonstrating the Company's values and supporting the mission.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

• Coordinate collection efforts for the loan and deposit portfolio
• Partner with lenders and branches regarding past due loans and overdrawn deposit accounts
• Contact past due clients
• Write collection letters
• Work with attorneys regarding bankruptcies and garnishments
• Attend court as necessary
• Assign accounts for repossession and sell repossessed collateral
• Prepare and review past due reports for management
• Maintain an aggressive collection effort to minimize past-due accounts
• Assist in resolving customer questions and concerns

• Attend meetings and provide input and updates on collections activities as required

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; and establishing personal networks
• Adhere to compliance with all federal bank regulations and laws, including those for consumer protection and the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Program
• Attend training and participate in outside community activities, as requested and/or required
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED

• 1 year of experience in a related role
• Previous bank experience preferred
• Knowledge of real estate lending, documentation, collateralization, UCC-1 Law, lien perfections, and Deeds of Trust
• Strong knowledge of financial principles, loan underwriting, lending regulations, credit analysis, and contracts with individual or corporate borrowers
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
• Effective presentation skills
• Attention to detail, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• High standards for integrity, honesty, professionalism, and work ethic
• Commitment to service excellence
• Ability to work independently while demonstrating excellent organization and follow through
