Deputy City Attorney II – Civil The City of North Las Vegas is recruiting for one vacancy in the position of Deputy City Attorney II – Civil. The role performs complex legal duties and services for City boards, commissions and departments, and the City Council. The Deputy City Attorney II – Civil must independently and proficiently complete legal assignments, applying seasoned judgment and technical proficiency. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an experienced attorney with a background in municipal, civil or administrative law, capable of independently managing complex legal matters with sound judgment. They are a confident advisor with transactional, real estate/land‑use, and/or litigation skills who can effectively represent the City on various matters and provide clear, practical guidance to City leadership and departments. The candidate demonstrates strong legal research and writing skills, and the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and integrity. A clear communicator and collaborative team player, they can translate complex legal concepts for diverse audiences. They are organized, able to manage competing priorities, and committed to delivering high‑quality, timely work while upholding the highest ethical standards. Candidate Qualifications Education and Experience: Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school. Three (3) years of progressively more responsible professional experience as a Deputy City Attorney I – Civil for the City of North Las Vegas or a similar municipality, or five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience as a practicing attorney in the assigned specialty area. Licenses and Certifications: Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Nevada at the time of application. Must be in good standing with all state bars to which they are licensed. Must possess a valid Nevada driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record. Must be admitted (or be willing to apply for admission) to practice law before the Federal District Court of Nevada and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Selection Process The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume. Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process, which includes prescreen, oral board interview, and selection interview. Selected candidates are subject to a pre‑employment screening that includes local and state criminal history checks, federal criminal history checks via fingerprints, drug screening, and for successful appointment a post‑offer pre‑employment background investigation and medical/physical examination including a drug/alcohol test. Background check processing may take two to three months to complete. Benefits and Schedule Work schedule: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
