Under general supervision of the MSO, the financial analyst has independent administrative responsibilities for all fiscal activities within the Department of Sociology and the African and African-American Studies Research Center (AAASRC) - a center currently under the direction of a Sociology faculty member. Manage all extramural and state funds (in excess of $4 million) ensuring compliance with University and governmental rules, regulations and policies. Following consultation with the Chair and MSO oversee the preparation of the department operating budget and allocate resources accordingly. Participate in short- and long-range financial planning. Responsible for contract and grant administration (pre- and post-award). Perform budgetary/financial analytic studies and prepare financial reports. Analyze, interpret and implement departmental and university fiscal policies. Advise, assist and guide faculty, department staff, and graduate students on financial issues. Act as liaison with campus central offices. Serve as Departmental Security Administrator (DSA). Coordinate department computer replacement schedule. Provide counsel to graduate students seeking research and dissertation support from external sources. Manage student awards in accordance with agency regulations. Provide work direction to the department fiscal assistant and oversee the processing of online financial transactions.
Overtime and weekends may be required.

Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems. Knowledge of university and/or higher education policies and procedures relating to contracts and grants and state fund accounting. Ability to analyze and interpret which policies and procedures apply to a given situation.
In-depth knowledge of federal and non-federal agency requirements and regulations for sponsored research from proposal preparation through close out, including (but not limited to) Cost Accounting Standards, A-21, A-110, A-133, Federal Demonstration Partnership, etc.
Demonstrated proficiency with accounting and fund management, from initial setup to closeout, for university departments and/or programs.
Demonstrated experience in principles and practices of fund accounting, cost analysis and audit procedures. Working knowledge of accounting principles, business math and bookkeeping for budget planning and analysis, and in reconciling discrepancies.
Knowledge and experience in application of principles and practices of fiscal planning and analysis. Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments. Ability to analyze and prepare budgets, identify spending patterns and project future expenditures based on computer data.
Experience with auditing, analyzing, and reconciling monthly operating ledgers, forecasts, reports, accrual accounting, staff and faculty salary analysis. Demonstrated skill in projecting salary, benefit and indirect costs, with knowledge of payroll and personnel regulations impacting such costs.
Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. Excellent computer skills with demonstrated knowledge of personal computers and a wide variety of software packages for presentations, written communication, word processing, spreadsheet and database management (e.g., Word, Excel,Outlook, internet searches, etc.).
Advanced computer skills to import data from central databases to Microsoft applications, to create and run queries, create spreadsheets and workbooks, and process complex financial transactions with an online financial system. Operating knowledge of the internet and campus financial systems for research and data gathering.
Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Demonstrated proficiency in navigating research administration lifecycles and the ability to independently facilitate communication between faculty and the Office of Contracts and Grants (OCG), or equivalent sponsored projects office, to resolve moderately complex award or compliance issues.
Mathematical skills for the application of fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and to perform statistical calculations.
Ability to understand and interpret, without guidance or supervision, complex general policy guidelines, to make independent decisions and to initiate appropriate action.
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding financial, payroll and personnel information.
Strong problem-solving skills along with exercising good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and discretion in handling a wide variety of complex and confidential matters.
Demonstrated knowledge of standard and computerized filing systems. Ability to maintain and cross-reference complex filing systems for rapid/easy retrieval by self and others.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multitask in a high-volume environment. Ability to establish rapport and maintain cooperative working relationships and equanimity with colleagues and faculty.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of the university organization, including campus administrators, academics, managers, staff, and colleagues at all levels. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty and students.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Skill to effectively perform a variety of duties under pressing deadlines and with frequent interruptions, often shifting from one task to another as demands change.
Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.
Ability to function as a member of a team.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $73,205 - $106,634 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $35.06 - $51.07
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
