Position Title: Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician

Location: Charlottesville, VA

Description

Our organization is seeking qualified candidates for the role of a board-eligible or board-certified Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician within the Division of Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (NDBP) in the Department of Pediatrics. This position is available at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, with salary and rank determined by qualifications and experience. The patient demographic includes children facing neurodevelopmental or behavioral challenges, such as autism, intellectual disabilities, high-risk infant follow-ups, and mental, emotional, or behavioral issues (MEB). We also cater to children with neuro-motor disabilities, including cerebral palsy and neuromuscular disorders, as well as those affected by early childhood adversities. Patients are treated at the upcoming Riverside Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Health Center (set to open in late 2024) and the Battle Building (outpatient) of our Children's Hospital, conveniently located next to the main medical center, along with various rural outreach clinics.

Our team collaborates closely with a growing pediatric psychology service, which includes specialists in autism and behavioral issues, particularly for underserved families. We also participate in numerous interdisciplinary clinics alongside neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, orthopedics, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, nutrition, educational consultants, and family navigators.

The NDBP division co-hosts the esteemed HRSA Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program, known as Blue Ridge LEND, which emphasizes training the next generation of interdisciplinary graduate-level professionals in developmental disabilities, particularly in rural and underserved regions. Our division has a well-established fellowship program in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and is actively involved in the UVA pediatric residency program, all situated within walking distance of the medical center. Additionally, we maintain a strong partnership with the School of Education, where the Supporting Transformative Autism Research (STAR) center is located. The STAR center collaborates with NDBP on various clinical and educational initiatives related to autism, alongside international and national research projects.

UVA Health encompasses the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, University Physicians Group (UPG), and the Medical Center, which is a 735-bed level 1 trauma facility serving as the primary hospital for central Virginia. The Medical Center and Children's Hospital are located adjacent to the main university campus. Qualifications

Applicants must possess an MD or DO degree and be board-eligible or board-certified in developmental-behavioral pediatrics. Responsibilities will include delivering clinical patient care, engaging in quality improvement initiatives, and fulfilling teaching duties for students at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, pediatric residents, and developmental behavioral pediatric fellows. The ideal candidate will have clinical expertise in autism assessment and will have the opportunity to engage in clinical or translational research, either independently or in collaboration with existing research programs, as well as participate in advocacy efforts.
