Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, And Environmental Management Services

Provide industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and environmental management services to the University of Michigan Health. Services include: investigating safety and health-related complaints; exposure monitoring, indoor air quality testing, and sound level studies. Assist with Hazardous Material & Hazardous Waste Management Program. Evaluate workspaces and job tasks to ensure that proper controls are in place. Review plans for the construction and renovation of hospital facilities for occupational health, safety, and environmental concerns, and evaluate the designed effectiveness with assistance from senior staff. Perform emergency response for hazardous material spills, which may include biological or chemical substances. Lead the Laboratory Safety Program. Prepare special and periodic reports, guidelines, manuals, newsletters, summaries, and bulletins. Maintain data and dashboards for metrics within the scope of work. Respond to inquiries from staff and faculty regarding occupational health, safety, and environmental concerns. Prepare and submit detailed reports to department leadership for corrective action to be taken. Develop, coordinate, and conduct occupational health and safety, education and training programs for large and small groups and online.

Required Qualifications*

• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in safety engineering, occupational safety, environmental health science, or a related scientific or engineering field.
• The successful candidate must have at least 3 years of experience coordinating, creating and delivering training programs in environmental health and safety topics in both large and small group sessions.
• Excellent public speaking and writing skills.
• Current knowledge of OSHA & MIOSHA rules and regulations.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to pass a physical examination to allow for emergency response and wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Intermittent 24-hour on-call required.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Schedule

M-F daytime hours, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, with some flexibility allowed after completing the probationary period. Additional work hours may be required during nights and early mornings, and weekends to respond to customer needs.

Background Screening
