Assistant United States Attorney (Civil) Hiring Organization: USAO Southern District of Texas Location: 1000 Louisiana St, #2300, Houston, TX 77002 Application Deadline: September 30, 2026, 11:59 PM (ET) Overview We are seeking an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for the Civil Division to litigate a broad range of complex cases on behalf of the United States in federal court. The role involves immigration enforcement matters, warrants, habeas corpus, injunctions, asylum, passport, and general civil litigation. Responsibilities Represent the United States in civil litigation matters. Handle immigration enforcement, warrant issuance, habeas corpus, injunctions, asylum and passport cases. Prepare and file pleadings, legal research, and arguments. Appear in court, conduct discovery, and manage cross‑examination. Assist in complex civil cases as experience develops. Required Qualifications J.D. Degree. Active membership in any U.S. bar. At least 1 year of post‑J.D. legal experience. U.S. citizenship. Preferred Qualifications Strong academic credentials. Superior legal research and writing skills. Quick analytical ability to articulate case‑related issues. High‑volume courtroom experience, including first‑chair jury trials. Excellent organizational, time‑management, and interpersonal skills. Team‑oriented, professional conduct and commitment to ethics. Computer proficiency and self‑sufficiency in research and drafting. Benefits Salary range: $85,270.00 – $195,100.00. Travel 1 to 5 nights per month on average.
