Field Service Engineer

Job Family: Electrification & Automation Req ID: 511585 Field Service Engineer – Raleigh, NC area. We are looking for a Field Service Engineer. This position will be based in Raleigh, NC. In this hands‑on, field-based role, you’ll support customers by commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting power distribution and protection systems across a wide range of industrial environments. The role is highly travel-oriented and focused on medium‑ and high‑impact field execution, with opportunities to work on both greenfield and brownfield projects nationwide. This position supports Siemens’ Electrification Automation business and plays a key role in ensuring safe, reliable system performance for our customers. Key Responsibilities Installing, testing, commissioning, and starting up low- and medium‑voltage power distribution equipment (approximately 480 V–38 kV), including switchgear and breakers Performing hands‑on commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of protection and control relays (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin, Siemens SIPROTEC) Using industry‑standard test equipment and software (such as Omicron and Doble test sets, relay configuration and protection software) to validate system performance Supporting greenfield and brownfield projects through commissioning, maintenance, emergency response, and corrective troubleshooting activities Analyzing test results, assessing equipment condition, and documenting findings through clear, accurate field reports Working directly with customers, partners, and internal teams to provide technical support, training, and consulting as needed Traveling extensively to job sites across the U.S. to support field execution and project demands Basic Qualifications High School diploma or GED required 4+ years of experience with the following: Field-based commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical power distribution systems; protection and control relays (SEL, GE Multilin, Siemens SIPROTEC) and associated configuration software; relay testing equipment such as Omicron and/or Doble test sets; low- and medium‑voltage switchgear, breakers, and electrical control circuits; interpreting test data, assessing equipment condition, and producing clear technical documentation; willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 80% domestically; legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field Additional field service experience in transmission, distribution, or apparatus testing environments Experience commissioning specific relay models (e.g., SEL 751 or similar), with detailed hands‑on exposure Knowledge of high‑voltage and SF₆ gas circuit breakers Industry certifications or training such as NETA, NICET, OSHA30, NFPA70E, MSHA46/48, or TWIC card Our Commitment to Equity and Inclusion in our Diverse Global Workforce: We value your unique identity and perspective.
