Part-Time ReceptionistMet Council is America's largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 120 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.The part-time Receptionist will serve as the first point of contact for the Brooklyn Hub. The Receptionist will be responsible for welcoming visitors by greeting them in person or virtually and answering or referring inquiries. The Receptionist must be bi-lingual (English/Yiddish).Principal ResponsibilitiesServe visitors by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing appropriately.Answer, screen and forward any incoming phone calls while providing basic information when needed.Receive and sort daily mail/deliveries/couriers.Maintain security by following procedures and controlling access.Perform other clerical receptionist duties such as filing, photocopying, postage, collating, faxing, etc.Coverage and sorting of the general email box via outlook (View email address on click.appcast.io).Assist with special events and projects.Assist with data collection and entry.Other tasks as needed/assigned.CompetenciesSolid communication skills both written and verbal.Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise.Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure.Professional appearance.Skill and EducationHigh school degree or equivalent.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.English, bi-lingual Yiddish.Physical DemandsRequired Constantly: Walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, computer input, finger dexterity and coordination of hand, eye and footRequired Frequently: Standing and climbing stairs; carrying laptop & files (approx. 8-10 lbs)Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder, and lifting 5-25 pounds, pushing and pullingSpecial RequirementsKnowledge, understanding of and sensitivity to the culture of the local community.Compensation: $25 - $30 per hourBenefits: Pre-tax commuter benefits; 403(b); plus pro-rated vacation, sick leave and holidays.
