Field Technician – IT Support

Location: Kearns / Salt Lake County, Utah

Position Overview

Xtreme Solutions, Inc. (XSI) is seeking an experienced Field Technician to provide hands-on IT support for a client in the Kearns/Salt Lake County, Utah area.

This is an excellent opportunity for an IT professional who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, working directly with users, and resolving technical issues in the field rather than exclusively through remote support.

The Field Technician will provide onsite technical support across multiple locations, troubleshoot endpoint and connectivity issues, support Microsoft 365 environments, deploy and maintain IT equipment, and work with senior technical resources to resolve more complex infrastructure and cybersecurity issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide onsite technical support at client locations throughout Salt Lake County. 
• Troubleshoot Windows desktops, laptops, printers, peripherals, software, and end-user technical issues. 
• Install, configure, deploy, replace, and maintain workstations and other IT equipment. 
• Support Microsoft 365 applications and services, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint. 
• Assist with user accounts, permissions, password resets, MFA, Active Directory, and/or Microsoft Entra ID. 
• Diagnose wired and wireless connectivity, VPN, internet, and general network issues. 
• Assist with switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and other network equipment as appropriate. 
• Perform endpoint configuration, software installation, patching, and device replacement. 
• Maintain accurate hardware and software inventory information. 
• Respond to service tickets and document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and equipment changes. 
• Escalate complex network, server, cybersecurity, or infrastructure issues to the appropriate technical resource. 
• Coordinate with engineers, cybersecurity personnel, vendors, and remote support teams. 
• Follow established security, access-control, and change-management procedures. 
• Assist with onsite response during critical technical incidents or outages when required. 
• Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation.

Requirements:

• 2+ years of hands-on IT field support, desktop support, help desk, or technical support experience.  
• Experience troubleshooting Windows desktops and laptops. 
• Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, printers, peripherals, and connectivity issues. 
• Experience supporting Microsoft 365 environments. 
• Experience installing, configuring, deploying, patching, or replacing endpoints. 
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, VPNs, and basic network troubleshooting. 
• Experience using an IT ticketing or service-management system. 
• Ability to independently troubleshoot technical issues and appropriately escalate complex problems. 
• Strong customer-service, communication, and technical documentation skills. 
• Ability to provide onsite support throughout Kearns and Salt Lake County, Utah . 
• Ability to travel between client locations as needed. 
• Availability for occasional after-hours or emergency support when required. 
• Ability to successfully complete required background screening. 

Preferred Qualifications

• CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ 
• Microsoft, Cisco, or other relevant technical certifications 
• ITIL certification or service-management experience 
• Experience with Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID 
• Experience with endpoint-management or RMM tools 
• Experience with EDR or other endpoint-security technologies 
• Experience supporting servers and network infrastructure 
• Experience troubleshooting switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and VPNs 
• Experience supporting government, utilities, critical infrastructure, or regulated environments 
• Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices 
• Exposure to OT/SCADA environments is a plus but not required 

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can walk into an onsite technical issue, methodically troubleshoot the problem, communicate effectively with the end user, resolve issues within their scope, and recognize when an issue needs to be escalated.

The successful candidate will be comfortable serving as the hands-on technical resource in the field while collaborating with network, systems, and cybersecurity specialists.

Contingent Position Notice

This position is contingent upon Xtreme Solutions, Inc. receiving contract award and authorization to proceed. Employment offers, anticipated start dates, and final staffing requirements will be dependent upon contract award and client requirements.
