Specification Business Development Manager | Architect & Design Channel
Orange County, CA | Hybrid
Base Salary: $110,000 - $130,000 + Incentive Compensation

Savage Search Associates has been retained by a growing, internationally established company in the premium architectural and building-products space to identify a Specification Business Development Manager for its Southern California team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a polished, proactive sales professional who knows how to create demand rather than wait for it .

The Specification Business Development Manager will develop relationships with architects, designers, and other professional decision-makers with the goal of getting premium products considered and specified into future commercial projects.

This is not a traditional account-management role . We are looking for someone who enjoys opening doors, initiating conversations, identifying opportunities, educating sophisticated buyers, and building a pipeline from the ground up.

You do not necessarily need building-products experience. Our client is more interested in finding a talented business developer with strong sales fundamentals, intellectual curiosity, technical aptitude, and the ability to successfully sell a premium solution.

What You'll Do

• Prospect and develop new relationships with architects, designers, and other key decision-makers.
• Introduce and position premium products for consideration on upcoming projects.
• Build a strong pipeline of specification opportunities across a multi-state territory.
• Create interest with prospects who may not currently be familiar with the product or category.
• Uncover project needs, challenges, and opportunities through consultative conversations.
• Educate architects and designers on product applications, benefits, and solutions.
• Develop relationships that lead to products being specified into future projects.
• Consistently prospect through phone, email, digital outreach, referrals, research, and other business-development channels.
• Manage opportunities and pipeline activity through HubSpot.
• Partner with internal sales and support teams to move opportunities from initial interest through quotation and project conversion.
• Maintain strong follow-up and pipeline discipline.
• Develop the technical knowledge necessary to confidently discuss products and applications with sophisticated professional audiences.
• Travel within the assigned territory as business needs require.

What We're Looking For

• Approximately 4-7 years of successful B2B sales or business-development experience .
• Demonstrated success developing new business rather than primarily managing established accounts.
• Strong prospecting and relationship-development skills.
• Comfortable initiating conversations with architects, designers, executives, or other sophisticated professional buyers.
• Consultative approach with the ability to uncover needs and create interest in a new solution.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to learn technical products and communicate technical concepts effectively.
• Self-motivated, organized, persistent, and comfortable being measured against pipeline-development goals.
• Experience using a CRM and managing an active opportunity pipeline.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with a larger sales organization.

Experience That Could Translate Well

We are intentionally keeping the search broad. Relevant backgrounds could include:

• Architectural or design-focused sales
• Building products
• Commercial construction products
• Premium or technical products
• SaaS or technology business development
• Specification sales
• Commercial interiors
• Lighting, HVAC, appliances, fixtures, or related products
• Other complex B2B sales environments

Existing relationships with architects and designers are helpful, but they are not required . We are more interested in your ability to prospect, build credibility, understand a customer's needs, and successfully introduce something new.

The Right Person

You may be a strong fit if you are the type of salesperson who asks:

"Who should know about this product that doesn't know about it yet, and how do I get in front of them?"

You enjoy building something rather than simply inheriting a book of business. You're comfortable with targets and accountability, but you also recognize that great business development requires patience, curiosity, follow-through, and relationship building.

Compensation & Work Environment

• Base salary: Approximately $110,000 - $130,000 depending on experience
• Incentive compensation: Approximately 25%-30% additional earning potential based on performance
• Hybrid schedule
• Minimum three days per week in the Orange County office, with a preference for four days in-office
• Multi-state territory
• Product and structured sales training provided

Candidates with less experience who demonstrate exceptional business-development ability may also be considered at a different compensation level.
