Physical Therapist (PT) - School

School-based physical therapists deliver goal-directed therapy to students within educational environments, under supervision of a licensed PT.

The role supports student participation in learning activities by addressing mobility, balance, and functional skills in the classroom and on the playground.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to students' IEP/504 goals through individualized PT plans
• Provide direct therapy services and plan progression with the supervising PT
• Collaborate with teachers, school nurses, and families to support participation
• Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed
• Educate school staff and families on positioning, activity modification, and safety
• Document services, progress, and outcomes in school health records or EHR
• Ensure safety and appropriate use of equipment within school settings

Qualifications

Education: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or equivalent degree; eligible for state licensure as a PT.

Licensure: Licensed PT in the state; school-based practice credentials or endorsement as required by the district.

Certifications: CPR/BLS required

Experience or Skills: Experience with pediatric therapy and collaboration in school settings; strong communication with families and educators.

Experience

• Experience delivering PT services in schools or pediatric clinics
• Experience supporting IEP/504 goals and progress monitoring

Preferred

• Knowledge of MTSS/RTI and inclusive education practices
• Multilingual capabilities

Work Environment

School environment with regular daytime hours and occasional after-hours meetings; collaborations with multidisciplinary teams; documentation in district health records or EHRs.

Travel between school sites may be required; emphasis on facilitating participation in classroom activities.
