Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel position requiring ventilator experience and EPIC proficiency at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Roanoke, VA.

Details

• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
• Surgical PCU functioning as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
• Patient ratio is typically 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Unit includes 2 beds designated for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
• Respiratory support includes CPAP and BiPAP in addition to nasal cannula and standard oxygen administration
• IV drips managed on unit include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
• Equipment utilized includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tools, PICC lines, and multi-med lines (MML)
• Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting implemented to support Patient Care Tech coverage
• EPIC charting system — experience required
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• Floating within skillset required across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
• One holiday worked required per 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active Virginia State RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Ventilator care experience required, specifically with chronic trach patients
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Familiarity with cardiac drip management (no titration required)
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Two professional references required for consideration
• Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

• Large acute care facility with over 700 licensed beds, designated as a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet facility, and academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• Advanced specialty services include bariatric, trauma, and surgical care
