Construction Foreman

Position Summary


The Construction Foreman is responsible for overseeing and coordinating daily field operations on construction projects to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to plans, specifications, and quality standards. This position serves as the primary on-site leader for construction crews and coordinates closely with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and other stakeholders.


The ideal candidate has strong construction knowledge, proven leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced jobsite environment.

Key Responsibilities

Crew & Field Supervision

• Supervise, direct, and coordinate construction crews and subcontractors on a daily basis.
• Assign tasks and responsibilities to workers based on project priorities, skill levels, and schedules.
• Monitor employee productivity, attendance, workmanship, and overall performance.
• Provide hands-on leadership and guidance to crew members throughout the project.
• Train and mentor less-experienced workers on proper construction methods, safety procedures, and jobsite expectations.
• Maintain a professional, productive, and respectful work environment.

Project Execution

• Review project plans, blueprints, specifications, and work schedules to understand project requirements.
• Organize daily work activities and ensure crews have the materials, equipment, tools, and information necessary to complete assigned work.
• Coordinate construction activities to maintain project schedules and deadlines.
• Monitor job progress and communicate schedule concerns or delays to project management.
• Ensure work is performed according to approved plans, specifications, and applicable building codes.
• Identify potential construction issues and work with project management to develop solutions.
• Coordinate sequencing of work between crews, subcontractors, and other trades.
• Assist with project planning, scheduling, and manpower requirements.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote and enforce a strong safety culture throughout the jobsite.
• Conduct or participate in daily toolbox talks, safety meetings, and jobsite inspections.
• Ensure employees and subcontractors follow company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Identify and correct unsafe working conditions or practices.
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Report accidents, injuries, property damage, and safety violations according to company procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free worksite.

Quality Control

• Inspect completed and ongoing work to ensure it meets company and project quality standards.
• Identify deficiencies, rework, or potential problems before they affect the project schedule or budget.
• Ensure construction is performed correctly the first time whenever possible.
• Coordinate inspections and address punch-list items.
• Verify materials and workmanship meet project specifications.

Materials, Tools & Equipment

• Coordinate delivery and availability of materials and equipment.
• Monitor material usage and minimize waste.
• Inspect tools and equipment to ensure they are safe and operational.
• Report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning equipment.
• Help ensure company property and jobsite materials are properly secured.

Communication & Documentation

• Communicate daily with the Project Manager, Superintendent, General Contractor, subcontractors, and other project personnel as appropriate.
• Provide regular updates regarding project progress, manpower, materials, equipment, and potential issues.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, time records, and other required documentation.
• Document jobsite conditions, delays, changes, and completed work as required.
• Communicate changes in plans or project requirements to the appropriate crew members.
• Participate in project meetings as needed.

Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

• Coordinate the activities of subcontractors and vendors working on-site.
• Verify subcontractor work is completed according to plans, specifications, schedules, and safety requirements.
• Communicate scheduling requirements and site expectations to subcontractors.
• Identify conflicts between trades and assist in resolving issues.
• Coordinate material deliveries and ensure proper staging of materials.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 10+ years of construction experience, with supervisory or foreman experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, tools, equipment, materials, and jobsite procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Strong leadership and crew-management skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees, subcontractors, vendors, and management.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to prioritize work and manage changing project requirements.
• Basic computer and mobile technology skills for timekeeping, documentation, email, scheduling, and project-management systems.
• Valid driver's license may be required depending on the position and jobsite requirements.
