Assessment and Pedagogy Specialist

Position Summary The Assessment and Pedagogy Specialist works with the Associate Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment to design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive assessment support, professional development programming, and instructional coaching services that advance the mission of the Office of Academic Innovation (OAI). This role also develops high‑quality pedagogical and assessment content for OAI’s resource hub, OAI+, collaborating with individuals, departments, and programs across campus to enhance teaching effectiveness, support measurable pedagogical improvements, and foster a culture that prioritizes student success through equitable and inclusive educational practices. Presence in the OAI office space and face‑to‑face interaction with supervisors, OAI staff, team members, and faculty is required. Position Details Proposed Start Date: 09/16/2026 Classification Title: Academic Services Rank N – No Rank Working Title: Assessment and Pedagogy Specialist Department: 200740 – CAS Center for Academic Excellence Office Position Number D92147 Payment: FTE 1.0, Position FTE 1.0 Tenure Status: Not applicable Term: Renewable Recruitment Status: Open to current PSU AAUP academic professionals only (AAUP collective bargaining agreement, Article 17 Section 11) Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and evaluate assessment initiatives for teaching and learning improvement. Provide professional development and instructional coaching to faculty and staff. Develop and maintain pedagogical and assessment content for OAI’s resource hub. Collaborate with departments, programs, and campus stakeholders to support evidence‑based teaching and learning practices. Collect and analyze assessment data to inform program improvement and reporting. Participate in faculty mentoring and observation activities focused on inclusive pedagogy and equity‑mindful practices. Ensure compliance with PSU policies, including the Prohibited Discrimination & Harassment policy and Professional Standards of Conduct. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree with 4 years of higher education experience in program assessment, faculty development, or related field. Demonstrated experience in assessment design, implementation, and analysis. Experience teaching in K‑12 or post‑secondary contexts. Knowledge of evidence‑based teaching and learning practices. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree in education, higher education administration, or related field. 5+ years of experience in program assessment, faculty development, or instructional design. Experience managing comprehensive higher education professional development programs. Teaching experience in post‑secondary contexts. Demonstrated experience with assessment methodologies and data analysis. Experience with classroom observation protocols and instructional coaching. Knowledge of inclusive pedagogy, equity‑mindful practices, and culturally‑sustaining pedagogy. Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in post‑secondary settings. Experience working with diverse faculty populations. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and facilitation skills. Ability to work collaboratively across diverse organizational settings. Work Days/Hours Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm. Special Working Conditions Typical office environment with computer terminals, printers, multi‑line telephones, fax machines, copy machines, etc.; Occasional stoop, bend, lift, push, and carry items; Repetitive hand/wrist/arm movements on a computer keyboard; Sitting for long periods of time in front of a computer terminal; Mobility to attend meetings and activities scheduled campus‑wide; Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions; This is an on‑campus position; upon successful completion of the trial service period, up to one day remote work per week may be permitted. Benefits and Compensation The starting annual salary for this position will be between $66,696 and $73,224, with potential for negotiation above this range based on experience, skills, and budget. Additional benefits include 95% premium‑paid health care, a generous retirement and vacation package, and reduced tuition rates for the employee, spouse or dependent at any Oregon University System school.
