This is a highly visible role that will contribute to the success of the organization. As a solutions engineer at Liberty Mutual, you’ll be responsible for guiding the development of system, technical and product standards based on business plans and long-term strategies, while working in an agile environment that has the creative energy of a start-up—and the full backing and comprehensive benefits of a Fortune 100 company.**This is a hybrid role (2 days in the office a week) in the following locations: Columbus, Plano, Indianapolis, Boston, or Portsmouth****U.S. based role**We encourage you to apply and bring your expertise if you’re a:Strategic partner: You take the big picture view, whether you’re supervising architecture migrations or maintaining critical relationships with vendors and business partnersMotivated mentor: Exercise your technical chops while coaching and collaborating with junior software engineers.Systems-level engineer: Working hand-in-hand with your business partners, you’ll develop technical requirements and design robust and flexible product and system architecturesForward thinker: Leading by example, you’ll promote a culture of continuous improvement by finding solutions that increase efficiency, accelerate the adoption of new technologies and enhance profitabilityWhat you’ll do:Design, build, and integrate full-stack solutions using java, spring, Kubernetes, AWS, and typescriptBreak down ambiguous problems, identify root causes in complex systems, and deliver incremental improvements with clear milestones.Establish and champion engineering excellence practices (code quality, testing, observability, CI/CD, security by default, accessibility) across squads.Contribute to objectives by identifying and executing cost optimizations (runtime, pipeline, infra), and quantifying savings.Collaborate with product, design, platform, security, and data teams to translate business needs into scalable, secure, maintainable solutions.Create and socialize technical designs, playbooks, and runbooks; lead knowledge-sharing to raise the bar across teams.Implement robust CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions) with quality gates, automated testing, and secure supply chain practices.Embed observability (logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerts) to enable data-driven decisions and fast incident response.Uphold security and compliance standards (OWASP, secrets management, least privilege, threat modeling); participate in on-call/incident response as needed.Working model:At Liberty, we help our customers embrace today and confidently pursue tomorrow by developing online products and services that suit their needs, building trust and loyalty, and providing an exceptional experience.Our team is very collaborative. Qualifications ExperienceTen years of related software engineering experience A comprehensive understanding of agile environments Extensive knowledge of contemporary frameworks and emerging technologies A history of practicing DevOps and SecOpsA strong background in business operations and strategies, including knowledge of global business, technology trends and the financial services industrySkillsSolid negotiation, facilitation, consensus building and influencing capabilitiesAbility to identify patterns and problems across teams and deliver effective solutionsOpenness and adaptability to respond to fast-moving circumstancesA design thinking and test-driven development mindsetExcellent oral and written communication skills, and an aptitude for working in teamsKnowledgeExperience developing or architecting cloud-hosted, responsive web applications using Java, HTML5 and CSSS3Strong background in code reviewHigh-level proficiency with client-side JavaScript frameworks, server-side frameworks, and NoSQL databasesFamiliarity with event-based System of Engagement architectures and integration with API exposing microservicesDeep understanding of layered solutions and designsCognizance of security concerns, from access control and authentication to secured SDLC processesUnderstanding of DCI/MDM systems, data ingestion and cloud-scale data setsEducation A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience About Us Pay Philosophy: The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
