Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty: Legal Studies-Emerging Legal Technologies & Civil Procedures (College of Arts & Sciences)

Overview:

The Department of Justice & Law in the College of Arts & Sciences at Quinnipiac University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The preferred start date is January 2027 or August 2027. Rank will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and academic credentials.

We seek a dynamic, collaborative, and visionary teacher-scholar committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, scholarly engagement, and program leadership. The successful candidate will teach core legal studies courses, including Civil Procedure, while developing and offering courses and publishing research in emerging areas related to law and technology and artificial intelligence.

The successful candidate will also serve as Program Coordinator for the Law in Society Major and Minor and the Legal Studies Minor and ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate, providing academic and administrative leadership for these programs.

We strongly prefer candidates whose teaching and scholarship examine the intersection of law and emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to interdisciplinary legal education, experiential learning, and preparing students for success in the legal profession or other careers. The department emphasizes experiential learning through required internships, Mock Trial, and an accelerated 3+3 BA/BS–JD program in partnership with the Quinnipiac University School of Law.

The position is housed in an interdisciplinary department offering majors in Criminal Justice and Law in Society, minors in Law in Society and Legal Studies, and an ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate. We encourage candidates whose teaching and scholarship bridge law with other disciplines, including Criminal Justice, cybersecurity, technology policy, digital governance, or related fields.

Responsibilities:

• Teach undergraduate courses in legal studies, including Civil Procedure, and courses aligned with areas of expertise
• Develop and teach courses in emerging areas such as law and technology, artificial intelligence, and related topics
• Maintain an active research agenda, including scholarly presentations and publications
• Advise and mentor students in support of their academic and professional development
• Contribute to departmental, college, and university service.
  Program Leadership 
• In addition to standard faculty responsibilities, the successful candidate will serve as Program Coordinator for the Law in Society and Legal Studies programs, providing leadership for curriculum, operations, advising, and strategic development. While the standard teaching load for tenure-track faculty is three courses (9 credits) per semester, a one-course release each semester is typically provided to support these leadership responsibilities, subject to annual review
• Lead curriculum development, program planning, assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement in collaboration with the Department Chair
• Manage the ABA approval process for the Paralegal Certificate, including preparation of interim reports, program documentation, and ongoing compliance with ABA requirements
• Coordinate course scheduling, advising, and instructional assignments in collaboration with the Department Chair and Dean's Office
• Serve as the primary academic contact for students in the Law in Society and Legal Studies programs and oversee advising structures
• Recruit, mentor, and evaluate adjunct faculty in coordination with the Department Chair
• Lead recruitment, communications, and outreach initiatives to enhance program visibility and enrollment, including a modest amount over the summer
• Develop and sustain partnerships to support internships and other experiential learning opportunities.
  Monitor trends in legal education, emerging technologies, and the legal profession to inform curricular innovation and strategic planning
• Foster alumni engagement and support the development of an external advisory council

Education Requirements:

An earned doctorate (or equivalent terminal degree) in a law-related field or closely related discipline.          A J.D. and admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction are preferred.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching
• Evidence of, or strong potential for, an active scholarly agenda
• Interest in or experience with legal technology, artificial intelligence, or other emerging issues affecting the legal profession
• Demonstrated ability or strong potential to provide academic program leadership
• Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
• Experience in civil legal practice
• Experience teaching in undergraduate higher education
• Experience developing or teaching courses in legal technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity law, or related fields
• Experience with academic program administration, curriculum development, assessment, or accreditation
• Interest in or experience with interdisciplinary teaching, particularly in Criminal Justice or cybersecurity

Additional Information:

This is an on ground in-person position. Candidates must be able to work regularly at Quinnipiac University’s Mount Carmel campus and be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance, if applicable.

Candidates appointed at the rank of Associate Professor will be eligible to apply for tenure following Quinnipiac's residency requirement, which currently requires at least three consecutive years of full-time service at the University.
