Automation Engineer

The Automation Engineer at SFS Medina – Automotive Division is responsible for driving automation initiatives within the CNC Machining and Assembly departments. This position focuses on designing, implementing, optimizing, and sustaining automated and semi-automated systems that improve production efficiency, process stability, and product quality.

The role is hands-on and highly collaborative, supporting on-site line engineering activities, troubleshooting production issues directly at the machines, and implementing improvements on CNC machining centers, assembly equipment, and peripheral automation systems.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, or Automation engineering)

Minimum 3+ years of experience in automation engineering, preferably in machining, assembly, or automotive/precision manufacturing environments

Strong understanding of automated systems, robotics, industrial controls, sensors, and machine integration

Experience with PLC programming (Siemens preferred), HMI development, and industrial communication networks

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control-related issues

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in cross-functional teams

Hands-on experience in CNC machining or automated assembly processes is a strong plus

Provide hands-on support on the production floor to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve automated equipment, robotics, and peripheral systems

Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for automated systems, tooling, control logic, and process changes

Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving PLCs, sensors, robotics, communication networks, and machine interfaces

Monitor machine and assembly line performance, analyze production data, and identify opportunities to reduce downtime, scrap, and cycle time

Support integration of new machines, automation cells, and process technologies into production

Collaborate with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, Tooling, and Process Engineering teams to solve line issues and implement long-term solutions

Assist with standardization of manufacturing processes, safety improvements, and compliance with internal and customer requirements

Train operators, technicians, and manufacturing personnel on automated systems, safety measures, and best practices

Research and evaluate new automation technologies relevant to machining, assembly, material handling, and in-line inspection
