This is an excellent PRN opportunity for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner looking for flexible clinical work while making a meaningful difference in behavioral healthcare. Advanced Recovery Systems (ARS) is a physician-led behavioral healthcare organization dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate care for individuals and families affected by addiction and mental health conditions. Founded in 2013, ARS operates treatment facilities across the United States, providing comprehensive care across the continuum of addiction and behavioral health services. The Recovery Village Atlanta is dedicated to helping individuals overcome substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders through individualized, evidence-based treatment in a supportive environment. Key Responsibilities Provide high-quality psychiatric and medical care consistent with the ARS clinical philosophy and standards established by the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director. Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments of patients entering treatment. Establish rapport with patients and systematically gather clinical information to develop individualized treatment recommendations. Assess and diagnose substance use disorders and co-occurring primary mental health conditions. Evaluate patients for substance intoxication, toxicity, withdrawal symptoms, and other medical or psychiatric complications. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on clinical presentation, medical necessity, and established standards of care. Prescribe and manage psychiatric and other appropriate medications, including monitoring effectiveness, side effects, interactions, and potential complications. Evaluate patients for medication-related concerns and adjust treatment as clinically appropriate. Assess patients for risk of harm to self or others using evidence-based tools, including the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and PHQ-9 . Evaluate and address nutritional concerns, pain, sleep, and other medical or psychiatric needs that may affect recovery. Utilize both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches to pain management while considering the risks of dependency, addiction, misuse, and abuse. Apply ASAM criteria and Medical Needs Criteria when evaluating level of care, treatment needs, and ongoing placement. Collaborate effectively with nursing, therapists, counselors, medical providers, and facility leadership as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Review and interpret laboratory and diagnostic results and incorporate findings into the patient's treatment plan. Provide appropriate follow-up care and medication management throughout the patient's treatment episode. Complete accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic health record. Ensure documentation complies with ARS policies, state and federal regulations, and applicable Joint Commission standards. Clinical Documentation May Include Psychiatric evaluations Physical examinations Medical and psychiatric progress notes Medical discharge summaries Medication and ancillary orders Allergies and medication reconciliation Diagnoses and updates to diagnoses Laboratory result review and interpretation HIV and STD result review, documentation, and appropriate follow-up Treatment plans and clinical decision-making documentation Requirements Graduated from an accredited Nursing Master's Program with a Family Nurse Practitioner or higher and a Psychiatric Nurse practice degree. Experience in Addiction Medicine/ Primary Behavioral Health preferred. Familiarity with JCAHO and other indicated healthcare standards is preferred. Familiarity with ASAM/ ASAM Criteria and other indicated healthcare standards is preferred. Application of Continuous Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Team philosophy and ability to develop and apply organizational strategies. Communication skills to relate to all levels of facility staff. Self-motivated and confident. Depending on the state practicing, may need a protocol agreement to be completed by the NP and Medical Director. Licensed Nurse with Master's Degree or higher to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) in the appropriate state, as applicable, required. Must have a DEA to prescribe controlled medications and have had training on Buprenorphine Prescribing as outlined by the DEA in the state(s) working. DEA-authorized prescribers will be required to demonstrate that they have completed at least eight (8) hours of educational training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. Depending on the state practicing, may need a protocol agreement to be completed by the NP and Medical Director. Depending on the state, the DEA may not be able to be obtained until the protocol has been approved by the local nursing board. This is the only exception to not having a DEA at hire.
