Laboratory Technician II

Position Title Laboratory Technician II Position Purpose To perform routine experiments and laboratory duties in support of research efforts by the Ghosh laboratory. Key Responsibilities Experiments (60%) Performs routine tests required in support of laboratory work and experiments. Follows established safety procedures. Records (10%) Maintains laboratory records of procedures. May assist in preparing laboratory reports. Records experimental data from research using graphs, logs, charts, and statistical summaries. May perform limited library research and reference work for background materials. Laboratory (25%) Maintains stock of biomedical and other supplies. Requisitions laboratory stock items and equipment. Performs general laboratory maintenance as required. Miscellaneous (5%) May assist in surgical procedures. Communicates respectfully with a diverse community. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with laboratory practices, including methods, procedures, and techniques, and handling equipment and instruments. Ability to work independently with good judgment and organizational, time management, and communication skills. Willingness to work with or be exposed to hazardous materials such as radioactive materials, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals. Knowledge of computers and software applications. Preferred Qualifications Completed coursework in biology, genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, etc. General laboratory experience, including with molecular cloning, C. elegans, and/or tissue culture.
