About the Position

Description: Unit is a cardiac telemetry unit with 43 beds, featuring semi-private and private rooms. The average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, which can flex up to 1:6. RN's are responsible for titrating Heparin and occasionally Lasix or Bumex. Cardizem and Amiodarone are administered at set rates and are not titrated. There are monitor techs in the unit, and RNs are required to be proficient in reading strips. A charge nurse is available 24/7, but may take a patient assignment based on unit needs. Patient care technicians assist on the unit, with a goal nurse-to-PCT ratio of 1:8, which can flex up to 1:12-18 during high census. RNs must be capable of performing EKGs if PCTs are unable to do so. Equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP for supportive therapy only, with high flow for specific cases. Shift hours are self-scheduled, with an expectation for weekend rotation of every other weekend. Holiday requirements are mandated for permanent staff, with travelers working weekends if necessary. Floating to other units may occur as needed, ensuring assignments remain within skillset capabilities. Scrub color is royal blue, with specific guidelines on acceptable attire. The orientation includes one day of computer training followed by a day of floor shadowing with a preceptor. Teamwork is emphasized, and assistance is encouraged among staff members to manage the busy patient load. The unit typically experiences high volume with multiple admissions and discharges daily.
