The Vice President, Marketing and Communications at Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) plays a pivotal role in crafting and executing a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy. This includes overseeing digital and print initiatives, brand management, and media relations aimed at effectively conveying the organization's mission and increasing engagement among Girl Scouts, volunteers, and donors. The VP leads the Marketing and Communications team, which is responsible for content creation, data analysis, and budget management, and collaborates across departments to ensure consistent messaging. This position is also part of both the Advancement and GSWW Leadership Teams, shaping collective objectives and strategies for the department and organization.

This is a regular, full-time, exempt position that requires residency in Washington State, preferably within our Council region of Western Washington. Work can be conducted remotely, but successful candidates must be willing and able to come into a GSWW office or alternative worksite as needed or when requested. Starting compensation for this position is $106,838 to $133,548 per year. Placement within this range is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, relevant experience, specialized knowledge, skills, internal equity, and market considerations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides direct supervision, guidance, and support to assigned staff, to include performance management, coaching, professional development, and delegation of responsibilities in alignment with organizational goals and policies.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to support the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for positions within assigned team, ensuring alignment with organizational staffing needs and equity practices.
  • In collaboration with the GSWW Leadership Team, leads the creation and implementation of GSWW's brand voice.
  • Leads and contributes to organization-wide strategic initiatives in support of GSWW's mission and priorities.
  • Develops and oversees the organizational marketing and communications strategy, including the Marketing Annual Calendar.
  • Identifies gaps in marketing and communications strategy and collateral, proposing and implementing solutions to further promote GSWW's mission.
  • Supervises and guides all strategic marketing and creative campaigns and initiatives, both in digital and print formats, in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team to maximize reach, ensure brand standards, and effectively communicate GSWW's value.
  • Oversees and directs the Council's digital marketing KPI strategy and utilizes data analytics to report on campaign effectiveness and ROI.
  • Develops, in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, the Council's audience segmentation strategy to establish messaging arcs for all key stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications and Advancement teams to identify and gather impact stories, supporting a Council-wide storytelling strategy.
  • Identifies and manages all media buys to amplify Girl Scout impact stories.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with the news media and serves as the primary point of contact. Pitches stories and sends out news releases that increase brand awareness and understanding.
  • Executes and oversees GSWW's rapid communications response and distribution strategy, in conjunction with the organization's Risk Committee.
  • Takes an active leadership role by serving as the primary representative of the marketing and communications team on committees, special project teams, and in cross-departmental collaborations.
  • Manages the budget for the marketing and communications department.
  • Responsible for hiring and managing freelance and contracted personnel, including copywriters and graphic designers, and for producing creative briefs and providing creative direction as needed.
  • Responsible for training non-marketing staff to operate as brand ambassadors to post on behalf of the Council on our social media channels, use promotional templates to build awareness for Council programs, and represent the organization professionally at in-person events.
  • Actively participates in the Council's DEIRJB strategy, championing efforts to support ongoing growth as an anti-racist organization and ensure that our vision and values are reflected in all communications. Provides leadership in this area within the Marketing and Communications strategy.
  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization as an effective listener and problem-solver for diverse people.
  • Contributes to a consistent customer service standard across all departments.

  • Effective conflict resolution skills, with a proven ability to navigate and resolve interpersonal and organizational challenges.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Canva, and Adobe applications relevant to marketing and communications work.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises the Marketing and Communications Team and provides oversight and direction to freelance and contracted vendors engaged in Marketing and Communications work.

Education and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or marketing.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible senior-level experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field, including experience in strategic planning, brand management, media relations, and digital marketing.
  • Three or more years of experience with professional writing and editing.
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in development and administration of budgets and work plans; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
