Role Overview As a Roof Lead, your responsibilities include assembling, installing, and maintaining solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. You may also perform measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting of structural framing and solar modules. You will be a part of a crew that installs solar systems on residential homes. Responsibilities Work with a team to install the racking system and solar panels on residential roofs. Drive a truck and trailer safely. Structurally mount racking and electrical equipment and effectively seal penetrations. Perform routine photovoltaic (PV) system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural systems, weather sealing, and balance of systems equipment. Ensure proper job documentation is completed once the job installation concludes. Interact with customers, answer and direct questions as needed. Read and review blueprints and plan documents. Install racking systems and modules, run conduit and wiring on roofs. Apply weather seal, such as pipe flashings and sealants, to roof penetrations and structural devices. Configure electrical wiring of the solar system (AC and DC). Test operation or functionality of completed work. Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA standards related to photovoltaic installations and enforce safety practices and standards. Assisting with other duties as assigned by Foreman and/or Regional Operations Manager. Qualifications Education Requirements Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent, or technical/trade school training in solar or electrical systems is preferred. Required Skills 1–2 years of residential solar experience. OSHA preferred certification. Ability to safely handle power tools and materials such as ladders, inverters, solar panels, panel boards, batteries, and other electrical equipment, lumber, and roofing materials. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to perform all installation duties of the Installer and Lead Installer. Working knowledge of current NEC codes and ability to interpret single‑line drawings and PV systems from roof to meter. Knowledge of electrical principles as it pertains to solar interconnection/tie‑in, code, and how PV systems operate. Understanding of interconnection activities and basic construction principles. Safety: Adherence to company safety policies and procedures, identification and reporting of safety hazards, and encouragement of safe work practices. Must be able to successfully pass pre‑employment screening, including a valid driver’s license and a clean MVR to drive a company vehicle. Physical Requirements Ability to work within the safe range of equipment such as ladders, fall protection harnesses, and other personal protective equipment. Ability to withstand heights, be on roofs, and climb ladders (daily). Ability to lift 50–75+ lbs. routinely (daily). Ability to work in 0–100+ degree weather, as well as in wet and dry conditions. Ability to move around for prolonged periods, standing, kneeling, bending, squatting, and climbing ladders (daily).
