All applications must be received before 5:00 p.m. (PT) on Thursday, July 16, 2026, to be accepted. TYPE OF RECRUITMENT We welcome applications from anyone. RESPONSIBILITIES Plans and coordinates departmental audits. Conducts financial, compliance, and operational audits and accounting system reviews. Coordinates with external auditors. Conducts internal investigations of suspected fraud through the County Fraud Hotline. Evaluates and recommends improvements to accounting systems and internal controls. Prepares written audit reports and management communications. REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or a closely related field, including 21 semester units or 31.5 quarter units of accounting courses and a course in auditing. Additional experience requirements: Option I: Two years of professional auditing experience at the level of an Intermediate Accountant-Auditor. Option II: Three years of professional accounting experience. LICENSE A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job‑related essential functions. PHYSICAL CLASS Class 2 – Light: Administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort, occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds, occasional bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION To receive credit for your education, include a legible copy of all relevant official documents, including your diploma, transcript, or certificate from an accredited institution. The document should demonstrate the date the degree was conferred, number of units, and type of unit system used (e.g., semester or quarter) and be in English. International degrees require evaluation for equivalency to U.S. standards and translation if not in English. Documents marked unofficial will not be accepted. All materials must be submitted within the filing period. EXAMINATION CONTENT Two parts: Part I (Multiple Choice and Simulation Assessment, weighted 60%) measuring the following competencies: Professional Potential Achievement Working Relationships Analyzing Information Learning Quickly Generating New Ideas Using Time Efficiently Working to High Quality Standards Adapting to Change Coping with Uncertainty Willingness to Learn Responsibility Part II (Technical Writing Assessment, weighted 40%) measuring technical knowledge in the following areas: Professional/Technical Knowledge of Auditing Standards and Practices Risk Assessment and Internal Control Knowledge Analytical and Problem-Solving Ability Attention to Detail and Accuracy Planning and Organizational Skills Written Communication Professional Judgment and Decision-Making Applicants must meet the requirements and achieve 70% or higher on the combined score of parts I and II to be placed on the eligible list. Online practice tests can be accessed at ELIGIBILITY AND VACANCY INFORMATION Applicants who passed the assessment are placed on a list for a period of 12 months. The list is used to fill vacancies in Public Works as they occur. APPLICATION AND FILING INFORMATION We only accept applications filed online.
