Trades Specialist 3: Central Plant/HVAC

The Trade Specialist 3, HVAC/Central Plant installs, monitors, and maintains the Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS) for temperature control and lighting scheduling. Performs preventative maintenance and repair on HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Sets up recovery units, gauges, and refrigeration cylinders. Performs routine cleaning of pump motors, chillers, boilers, and other related equipment. The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel. This job may have On-call rotation duties. Troubleshoots all systems and responds to urgent issues. Performs maintenance and repair tasks with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy Serves as crew lead to staff and contract personnel. Assigns technical tasks, monitors work, and provides direction. Oversees inventory of supplies and estimates work hours and job materials. Inspects work of other staff and contacts personnel to ensure work standards are met Interprets blueprint plans, diagrams, schematics, and equipment manufacturer information. Applies appropriate work methods and codes to facilitate work Obtains estimates for work and materials from vendors Estimates labor, work hours, and materials. Assists in planning work schedules Assists development and monitoring of budget. Provides copies of all expenses incurred for work performed Serves as crew lead to staff and contract personnel; assigns technical tasks, monitors work, and provides direction Orders supplies and equipment to ensure adequate stock and functionality are maintained. Oversees and distributes inventory as needed Operates and maintains equipment and tools associated with areas of responsibility Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor Qualifications High school diploma or GED and Vocational or technical training in HVAC maintenance and Three to five years of related journey level trade experience and Valid Arizona drivers license or An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above Preferred: Five to eight years of related journey level trade experience HVAC EPA certification/license Knowledge of HVAC principles, systems, and components, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical and electrical systems, sufficient to perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work in accordance with applicable codes, safety standards, and manufacturer specifications Knowledge of skilled trades expertise required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles and practices Knowledge and application of organizational and time management principles Skill in effective communication (both written and oral) Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature Skill in HVAC maintenance Skill in positive, productive, and flexible customer service Skill in problem solving Ability to adapt and maintain professional composure in emergent and crisis situations Ability to operate relevant equipment required to complete assigned responsibilities for the position Ability to develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships Physical Requirements Environment: Work is performed primarily in a non-traditional work environment with staff contact and frequent interruptions.
