Volunteer Translation & Localization Specialist The volunteer Translation & Localization Specialist will translate or review approved materials and help adapt language, examples, formatting, and user experiences for specific audiences. Responsibilities Translate or review approved web, app, email, video, workshop, help, and outreach content Preserve meaning, tone, reading level, calls to action, and safeguarding language Maintain glossaries, style guidance, source references, version records, and reviewer notes Identify text expansion, date, number, layout, image, caption, and accessibility considerations Coordinate with fluent reviewers and program owners before publication Flag ambiguous, sensitive, legal, medical, financial, or culturally specific wording Use approved systems and protect unpublished content and participant information Avoid machine-only publication, invented claims, or unauthorized interpretation services Verify final implementation and report localization defects Qualifications Professional or highly proficient fluency in English and at least one additional language Translation, localization, editing, education, community outreach, or multilingual content experience Strong cultural awareness, research, consistency, and attention to detail Familiarity with accessibility, plain language, captions, or localization tools is helpful At least 18 years old and willing to complete screening and confidentiality requirements This is a remote, project-based role available within the United States. Expect approximately 2–6 hours per month as projects arise.
