EMU Police Officer in Ypsilanti

Two positions are ready to be filled as EMU Police Officers. The successful candidate must be MCOLES certified, participate in the Washtenaw Safety Alliance, and be able to effectively engage and positively interact with our diverse population of students, faculty, and staff on campus. In addition, they are sworn through the City of Ypsilanti and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, which extends the boundaries of our powers of arrest. EMU offers a competitive salary package with a salary step increase for applicants with prior police experience. Responsibilities of EMU Police Officers Act as the first-line representative of law enforcement/public safety to the EMU community. Carry out the duties and responsibilities to enforce local, county, and state laws ensuring equal application of constitutional rights are upheld. Act as an ambassador of the law enforcement profession with fair and impartial enforcement strategies. Requirements Possession of a valid Driver’s license. Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards Training Certification, or certifiable status. Prior experience as a campus or police officer is preferred. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations. Ability to work under pressure, occasionally for long periods of time. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Ability to work with appropriate safety-related gear including a bulletproof vest, firearms, handcuffs, etc. Ability to physically and mentally perform the essential duties of the job. Ability to arrest, subdue, and search suspects and prisoners. Ability to drive department vehicles. Basic knowledge of computers is preferred. An Associate degree is preferred. Ability to work 12‑hour shifts (07:00–19:00 Days, 19:00–07:00 Nights).
