University of Michigan Police Officer – Ann Arbor Campus May 1, 2025 The Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS) leads all public safety functions within the university, including police, security, and emergency management, and offers an integrated approach to safety and security, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. DPSS combines Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint operations to provide students, visitors, faculty, and staff with a safe and secure environment. Through our partnerships across the university and local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, we use a blended service model to meet the needs of our community and exceed expectations. Police Officer Position Opening As a Police Officer, you will provide for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, promoting good community relations, patrolling assigned areas to prevent crime, enforcing laws, ordinances, and traffic regulations, controlling crowds, and arresting violators. You may also perform specialized police activities such as criminal investigations, interviewing witnesses, crime victims, and suspects. We are a full-service law enforcement agency responsible for providing police services to all areas of our campus community. Our mission is to contribute to and promote a safe and secure community while respecting the rights and dignity of all persons using the University of Michigan’s facilities and programs. This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Police Officers Association of Michigan union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment. The salary range for a new, probationary Police Officer is $58,947.20 – $89,856.00 . Responsibilities The hired Police Officer will complete the following responsibilities: Uphold the highest standards of conduct and customer service while serving and protecting our community and taking measures to prevent crime Enforce University ordinances and regulations and State and Federal laws Patrol campus areas for crime prevention, parking and traffic control and issue citations Obtain and serve warrants, subpoenas and other court documents Identify, apprehend and arrest suspects Testify in criminal, civil and administrative hearings Required Qualifications High school or GED equivalent + 2 years of relevant police/military experience, completion of an accredited police training academy or training, and MCOLES license and certification (or certifiable), OR Associate degree and completion of an accredited police training academy or training and MCOLES license and certification (or certifiable) Why Work at Michigan?
