About the Position

Job Opportunity – Pediatric Float Pool RN – Virginia

Start Date: November 23, 2026

Location: Central Virginia

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week, 52-week assignment. Every other weekend and every other holiday required (must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays). Block scheduling cannot be accommodated.

Highlights:

• Float pool position rotating through various pediatric units including PICU, NICU, pediatric medical-surgical, pediatric PACU, pediatric ED boarders, and postpartum/mother-baby
• Patient populations range from neonates to adolescents with diagnoses including congenital heart disease, surgical needs, respiratory distress, trauma, and oncology
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by unit: PICU 1:2, NICU 1:2 or 1:3, Acute Pediatrics 1:4-5, with variable ratios in pediatric ED
• Epic EMR system utilized across all units
• 60 hours of orientation provided; limited time off available (40 hours maximum per contract, no RTO approved during first 2 weeks)
• Comprehensive interdisciplinary team support including respiratory therapy, child life specialists, pharmacy, physical therapy, and rapid response teams

Requirements:

• Active Virginia RN license (may submit with license pending; must be in hand by Wednesday before start date)
• Minimum 2 years of PICU experience required
• NICU experience required and must be comfortable in all pediatric settings
• Previous NICU/PICU float pool experience strongly preferred
• Pediatric PACU experience highly preferred
• Epic charting system experience required
• Travel nursing experience required
• BSN preferred
• Current certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and PALS (all required)
• Dr. Browns Infant-Driven Feeding Certification required (may submit with certification pending; $200 cost to obtain)
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions); COVID-19 vaccine not required
• Must adhere to facility float policy and be willing to float within scope of practice
