Director/Supervisor - District Special Education & Related Service Staff

SUMMARY
The Director/Supervisor of District Special Education & Related Service Staff provides leadership and oversight for special education programming and supervision within an assigned local district while also supervising Eaton RESA Related Service Staff (RSS) who support local districts throughout the county. This position collaborates closely with local district special education directors, staff, families, and community partners to support effective programming, compliance, and service delivery to support strong student outcomes. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Provide leadership, supervision, and technical assistance to the assigned local district to support effective special education programming, IEP implementation, and progress monitoring.
• Oversee administrative functions, including budgeting, staffing, transportation coordination, and resource allocation for special education services.
• Collect, analyze, and utilize student outcome and program effectiveness data to drive continuous improvement and improved student achievement.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal special education requirements (IDEA, MARSE) and provide support and guidance to staff and families.
• Consult with administrators and instructional staff to determine program needs and collaborate on strategic initiatives such as school improvement and curriculum development.
• Coordinate and facilitate professional learning opportunities for special education staff focused on instructional practices, service delivery models, and compliance requirements.
• Supervise related service staff assigned to local districts across the county, providing ongoing coaching, support, and evaluation appraisal.
• Partner with local district special education leadership to address RSS staffing needs through recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and placement to ensure effective service delivery.
• Promote and support the implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework and tiered systems of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to ensure early intervention, data-based decision making, and improved outcomes for all students, including students with disabilities. • Foster collaborative relationships with families, local district staff, RSS, and community partners to support complex student needs, appropriate placement decisions, and continuity of services.

• Valid Michigan Administrator Certificate.
• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with at least (1) endorsement in special education.
• Approval or eligibility for temporary approval as a Director or Supervisor of Special Education by the Michigan Department of Education. EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Required
• A master's degree in special education administration, supervision, or special education or enrolled in a program to earn one. Desired
• Minimum of three years successful experience in special education leadership preferred.
• Experience working collaboratively with local district and related service staff is preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Deep understanding of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).
• Experience supporting local district special education programs and related service staff.
• Experience leading teams, coaching staff, and managing multiple priorities.
• Knowledge of secondary transition planning and programming for students with cognitive impairments.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with families, districts, staff, and community partners. PHYSICAL EFFORT & WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Sitting - Position requires a moderate degree of sitting.
• Standing/Walking/Bending/Stooping - Position requires a moderate degree of these activities.

• Position requires the employee to provide his/her own transportation for job-related travel.
