JOB SUMMARY: The Chief Growth Officer (CGO) is a senior executive tasked with orchestrating mission-driven growth across fund development, community engagement, and program expansion. The CGO is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive growth strategies that expand BGCMA's reach, strengthen its capacity to serve youth and families, and ensure long-term sustainability. A core expectation of this role is direct accountability for driving and sustaining a fundraising portfolio in excess of $20 million annually. As a member of the Senior leadership team, the CGO will help guide the organization's direction and strategy with a focused lens on impact, community presence, and resource development that is aligned with the mission. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Experience: At least 7-10 years of work experience in non-profit agency operations, primarily in fundraising. Annual and capital campaign experience is required. Knowledge of fundraising strategies, techniques (online giving, social media, direct mail, events, and volunteer activities), and sources (individual-corporate-government-foundation) required. Experience with youth-serving organizations is highly preferred. Experience leading a large team including managing and providing oversight and direction to staff and developing and managing a budget required. Experience working with the Atlanta philanthropic community and raising funds to sustain a 20M+ dollar budget (of which 80% comes from philanthropic and government sources) preferred.
Skills: Persuasive with strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent presentation skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies. Leadership, supervisory, team-building, collaboration, and mentoring skills are required. Proficient user of MS Office, Outlook, and fundraising databases, such as Salesforce
Physical and Mental Requirements: Must be detail-oriented, have good analytical abilities, high energy level, and be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, while displaying tact, maturity, and flexibility.
Environment and Work Conditions: Normal internal office environment with frequent travel between Clubs and the Support Center. The schedule also includes occasional evenings and weekends to support BGCMA's fundraising events, special events, and activities. Frequent internal contact with employees throughout the organization is required. Physical requirements include walking, climbing stairs, and sitting for four-plus hours per day. Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: Exempt Exempt employees are not entitled, under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to the protections of the wage and hour laws of the state or the FLSA. Exempt employees must always be paid on a salary basis and not be subject to reduction based on the quality or quantity of work performed.
- Provide leadership and direction by developing strategies, policies, and activities required to drive mission-aligned growth across fund development, community engagement, program outreach, and marketing.
- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight on growth initiatives to the board of directors, management staff, and organizational staff so that the organization has a coordinated, enterprise-wide strategy for expanding community impact.
- Mentor team members to build organizational capabilities, fostering a culture of continuous learning, accountability, collaboration, and youth-centered service.
- Oversees volunteer services, ensuring volunteers are effectively recruited, trained, deployed, and recognized as key contributors to the organization's mission.
- Works cross-departmentally to ensure program, finance, and operations staff understand and adhere to all grant conditions and reporting obligations.
- Research and analyze data to identify, cultivate, and develop relationships with corporate, government, individual, foundation, and civic partners, including recommending targeted engagement and stewardship strategies.
- Develop and maintain strategic alliances with community leaders, major funders, government agencies, youth-serving organizations, and local officials to advance the mission and expand organizational reach.
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with aligned community organizations to amplify collective impact for youth and families.
- Serves as the organization's lead growth executive with direct accountability for driving and sustaining a fundraising portfolio in excess of $20 million annually, encompassing individual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, government funding, special events, and planned giving.
- Formulate strategies to grow and diversify the organization's funding base, increase capacity, and enhance community engagement and retention across all programs and initiatives.
- Formulate and initiate strategies to secure unrestricted funding whenever possible and, when restricted, ensure alignment with the organization's strategic priorities and program needs.
- Build and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, and government agencies as key partners in sustaining and expanding the organization's impact.
- Directs efforts of the President & CEO, board members, volunteers, and development staff to research and identify major corporate, foundation, government, and individual donors and oversees the preparation of proposals and presentations.
- Ensure prospective grants and funding opportunities align with the organization's mission, have reasonable reporting requirements, and are completed with accurate, compelling information.
- Collaborates with the President & CEO, board, and outside resources to implement identified fund development projects and initiatives, including endowments, major gifts, and planned giving.
- Works in partnership with the CFO to inform the annual revenue budget and provide regular projections of anticipated cash donations and pledges to maintain a healthy financial position for the organization.
- Develop, implement, and control department budgets and ensure staff understand and adhere to financial plans.
- Works with the President & CEO, board of directors, and senior staff to develop and implement a strategic plan for single and multi-year growth efforts aligned with the current organizational strategy and mission, with a focus on strengthening our brand, membership, and funding sources as interconnected pillars of sustainable impact.
- Supports efforts to build a brand with badge value with Marketing, one that galvanizes the community, deepens pride in the organization's mission, and drives measurable increases in both membership and philanthropic investment.
- Oversees the alignment of revenue and funding strategies specifically tailored to the organization's ambitions, ensuring that funding sources, donor relationships, and resource development efforts are intentionally structured to support strategic priorities.
- Oversees the development, implementation, and coordination of annual growth and fund development initiatives, controls related expenditures, and maintains donor and organizational financial records according to established standards.
- Partners closely with the marketing department to align internal and external messaging, ensuring a unified brand presence that authentically reflects the organization's mission and impact.
- Oversees and participates in planning and logistics for special events, including obtaining sponsorships, soliciting gifts, and preparing printed materials and publications.
- Oversees the development, effective use, and maintenance of a comprehensive donor and community database for the entire organization.
- Works very closely with Resource Development Operations to ensure the timely and accurate input of all organizational revenues and engagement data into the database, including operational, capital, and endowment funds.
- Works collaboratively with SVP, Marketing & Communications, supporting the development and implementation of a strategic communications plan that elevates the organization's visibility and resonates with youth, families, donors, and the broader community.
- Communicate youth outcomes and program impact data as a core component of the organization's growth story, ensuring funders, board members, and community partners understand the depth of impact.
- Works with programs, development, and marketing staff to gather outcome data required to support fundraising efforts and inform funders and stakeholders of their community impact.
- Oversees and works with the Board Resource Development & Growth Committee to advance fund development and growth objectives and supports the Committee with related activities.
- Works with the CFO to provide accurate and timely information to the Budget & Finance Committee on revenue projections, timing, and possible surpluses or shortfalls across all funds.
- Collaborates with the President & CEO to promote and coordinate the board campaign, including personal gifts and leveraged relationships.
- Provides staff support to new Board Member Orientation, the Board Development Committee, and the Council of Presidents & CEOs.
- Manages the growth and development team including recruiting qualified staff, training and developing talent, identifying performance objectives, and monitoring and providing feedback on performance.
- Coaches team members to reach all growth, fund development, and community engagement goals while building individual and organizational capabilities.
- Fosters a culture of trust, collaboration, inclusion, innovation, and mission commitment, and ensures staff accountability.
- Works with marketing & development staff and other department staff to obtain outcome data required to support fundraising efforts and inform funders of their impact.
