RN Manager Occupational Health Clinical Operations

Overview An RN Occupational Health (Occ Health) Manager is required to oversee and actively support the MedStar St. Mary\'s and MedStar Southern MD Hospitals Occupational Health Teams. The OH Manager will have leadership experience, drive change, lead projects, connect with hospital administration to build internal relationships, supervise staff, and develop process improvements to support daily OH operations. This role includes collaboration with regional OH Hubs and OH Shared Services, and working in support of the OH AVP. The manager coordinates the work activities and services provided by clinical and administrative staff to assure efficient, effective, and safe patient care in the Occupational Health Department. Primary Duties And Responsibilities Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives; adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies, procedures, and governmental/accreditation regulations. Accurately documents all data into the associate electronic medical record (OHM). Accesses documents in other appropriate databases. Provides timely and complete data entry with all required information based on Occupational Health practice standards. Collaborates with OH and outside medical providers to monitor case management progress, including disability duration and other indicators. Coordinates with the TPA to ensure appropriate treatment plans, referrals, and authorizations are obtained for optimum care and case management. Coordinates and implements the Advanced Practice provider peer-review evaluation process. Coordinates and provides ongoing clinical in-services with the OH AVP to promote and enhance practice in occupational health and work‑related injury management. Organizes orientation programs and oversees continuing clinical education to ensure staff readiness. Develops plans and assists in implementing wellness programs to improve the health and work‑life balance of associates. Evaluates fitness-for-duty protocols and makes appropriate referrals to physicians and other health care providers; facilitates mandatory EAP referrals when indicated. Evaluates associates’ ability to return to work full-duty or in modified duty after extended absences; assesses work capability and develops transitional duty programs as needed. Evaluates, assesses, and treats work-related injuries with standards of care per OH policies; formulates care plans including diagnostics and referrals as indicated. Completes workers’ compensation documentation and updates relevant databases; collaborates with the TPA to manage claims. Implements health compliance programs for hospital workers (e.g., influenza program, N95 fit testing, hearing conservation, TB testing, vaccination requirements). Liaises with departments to evaluate workplace safety and collaborates with managers on injury prevention and action planning. Oversees daily operations and facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration among clinical and support staff. Assists with recruitment, onboarding, staff management, and supervises performance evaluations. Performs pre-placement medical clearances, including comprehensive job-related history and physical examinations with PCP referrals as indicated. Prepares and administers medications, including vaccinations and TB testing, per department policy. Follows exposure protocols including lab work, first aid, and prophylaxis and coordinates follow-up. Requisitions and interprets diagnostic tests (laboratory and imaging) when indicated. Counsels associates regarding exam findings, abnormal results, follow-up, and implications for health and job performance. Works with the OH AVP and OH Shared Services to manage the designated OH site budget and ensures resources align with department goals. Identifies, evaluates, and implements plans to improve operations and clinical practice in collaboration with the department director and medical director. Participates in meetings and committees; represents the department and hospital in community outreach and in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams. Minimal Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree in Public Health or Nursing preferred. Experience 5–7 years of progressively responsible, job-related experience; 3–4 years as an RN and 2 years in a senior lead or supervisory capacity required. Licenses and Certifications Valid RN license from an accredited school of nursing. BLS – Basic Life Support certification required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Good physical assessment, triage, and first aid skills. Understanding of workers\' compensation and OSHA regulations. Strong patient education and communication skills; intermediate computer skills. This position has a hiring range of USD $102,606.00 – USD $196,996.00 per year. #J-18808-Ljbffr MedStar Health
