Food & Nutrition Kitchen Assistant

A Kitchen Assistant performs assigned tasks in designated areas related to the operation of successful food and nutrition programs within the school. A Kitchen Assistant is responsible to the Lead Assistant and/or the Food and Nutrition Manager.

Essential duties and responsibilities of position:

• Assists in food production.
• Transports food and supplies between the preparing kitchen and its finishing kitchen(s).
• Can or must learn to operate typical commercial food preparation equipment such as slicers, steamers, ovens, and microwaves.
• Can or must learn to operate computerized POS equipment.
• Follows Manager/Lead Assistant's instructions in preparing, portioning, and serving meals.
• Participates in job-related training classes and workshops.
• Follows established sanitation and safety procedures in use and care of equipment, storing and serving food, and personal habits.
• Assists in maintaining daily-required forms.
• Participates in merchandising and promotional activities.
• Demonstrates a positive, cooperative attitude.
• Maintains regular, on-time attendance.
• Reacts to change productively and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements of the position:

• Has good interpersonal communication skills.
• Has completed the eighth grade.
• Able to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
• Able to lift 35 pounds on a recurring basis.
• Able to walk, bend, stoop, and reach without restrictions.
• Has a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for use to transport food and supplies in certain positions as determined by the Supervisor.

Salary: The salary range for a Food & Nutrition Kitchen Assistant for the school year 2026-2027 is $10,053.57-$21,747.00, with potential to increase with experience. An attractive fringe benefit package includes full-cost health care (for employees working more than 17.5 hours/week), supplemental life insurance, retirement plans, 10 sick leave days, and 3 personal leave days.
