Our client, a respected, growing multi-office North Carolina law firm, is seeking a civil defense litigator with 3–7 years of experience to join its Wilmington office. If You Have:

• 3–7 years of civil defense litigation experience
• professional liability or insurance defense experience preferred
• Hands‑on experience with pleadings, discovery, motions, depositions and advocacy in North Carolina Superior Court
• The ability to manage a varied caseload on your own
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills
• Excellent organization and attention to detail
• A self‑starting, entrepreneurial approach and a commitment to client service and teamwork
• Skilled with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Westlaw or Lexis, billing software and generative AI tools
• An active North Carolina law license in good standing

You Will Be:

• Managing an active professional liability defense caseload from intake through resolution
• Drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and legal research for complex state and federal matters
• Propounding, responding to and evaluating written discovery
• Taking and defending depositions, including preparing clients and experts and examining opposing experts
• Arguing motions in state and federal court
• Advising clients and carriers through case summaries, strategy recommendations and regular updates
• Negotiating with opposing counsel on discovery, settlement and pre‑trial issues
• Preparing for and attending mediations and reviewing settlement documents
• Leading trial preparation, including witnesses, exhibits, motions in limine, jury selection, openings, closings and examinations
• Presenting to prospective clients individually and in groups
