Summary Mission Support Specialist – Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations, Detroit Field Office, Detroit, MI. Start salary range: $98,729.00 (GS‑12, Step 1) to $152,625.00 (GS‑13, Step 10). Role involves providing authoritative guidance and technical advice on complex, sensitive mission‑support issues. Duties Develop and refine work methods, policies, and procedures to strengthen homeland protection. Provide guidance, advice, and assistance on complex, sensitive issues not resolved by accepted methods. Conduct studies to develop responses on program operations, legislation, regulations, and organization‑wide and government‑wide management issues. Evaluate legislation, policies, directives, and regulations for impact on program areas. Maintain ongoing contact with personnel within DHS and other agencies to ensure program compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. Provide authoritative advice at agency headquarters and in the field. Requirements U.S. citizen; males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service; primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years; background investigation; compliance with DHS ethics rules and drug‑free workplace plan. Qualifications GS‑12 – 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Provide guidance on problems unsuitable for accepted methods. Conduct studies on interrelated issues and major process or program effectiveness. Analyze disputed information requiring substantial depth of analysis. Respond to unanticipated changes in law, policy, and conflicting goals. Maintain source of firsthand information on developments, trends, and policy decisions. GS‑13 – 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Serve as a troubleshooter, providing authoritative guidance on complex problems. Assist managers and employees on sensitive issues. Conduct studies with incomplete or conflicting data to develop management responses. Analyze organization‑wide and government‑wide management issues related to legislation and policy. Education Relevant education is considered on a case‑by‑case basis.
