Support Services Specialist

Summary

This position is located at the Northern Region Region 1 Kootenai National Forest in Troy MT.

Duties

• Duties listed are at the full performance level GS-06.
• Keep employees informed of human resources policy and regulatory changes such as those related to leave injury compensation retirement and promotions
• Provide services to include budget travel procurement property management records management liaison training and clerical services to support the Unit (or management).
• Utilize automated systems to initiate personnel requests annual performance ratings local recruitment efforts and new employee orientation to support the Unit (or management).
• Review outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy.
• Perform general property management support services such as maintenance and disposal of equipment
• Purchase or contract for supplies equipment and services by selecting the correct and most cost-efficient method and/or instrument to accomplish procurement action.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-05 level: Applicants must have three years of progressively responsible general experience one year of which was equivalent to at the least the GS-04 level. General experience is experience that involved dealing with others in person-to-person work situations in obtaining and providing a variety of services for an organization or other work that demonstrated the ability to perform successfully the work of the position to be filled. Examples of work experience that meet this requirement include: Accurately typing correspondence reports or similar materials from handwritten or electronic drafts using word processing software; ensuring correct grammar spelling capitalization punctuation and appropriate format; using database or spreadsheet software to enter revise sort calculate or retrieve data for standard reports; accurately and promptly transmitting and receiving documents and messages electronically; reading routing and processing incoming correspondence and materials in accordance with established procedures.

OR

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in any field leading to a bachelors degree.

OR

A combination of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business secretarial or technical school junior college college or university.

For the GS-06 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as meeting one or more of the following: Compiling and organizing monthly expenditure information for routine budget reporting; reviewing correspondence or documents for grammatical accuracy correct formatting and adherence to established guidelines; purchasing routine supplies or special-order items including reconciling purchases in an electronic database; monitoring inventory levels and determining when supplies need replenishment.
OR
One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework that is directly related to the work of the position (such as Business or Public Administration or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled). The education was obtained in an accredited college or university.
OR
A combination of graduate level education (such as Business or Public Administration or other administrative or management fields related to the position being filled) that is directly related to the work of the position and specialized experience. The education was obtained in an accredited college or university.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
