Job Title: Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Facilities Technician Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining and improving a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility by performing preventative and routine maintenance on building systems, utilities, and process equipment. You will monitor and troubleshoot HVAC, utilities, and mechanical systems, complete work orders, support facility renovations, and ensure that all work aligns with strict pharmaceutical standards. The position requires hands-on mechanical skills, regular onsite presence, and collaboration with other maintenance personnel across multiple shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and routine maintenance on facility buildings, utilities, and process equipment to keep operations running reliably.

• Complete submitted work orders accurately and in a timely manner, documenting work performed and parts used.

• Monitor and troubleshoot HVAC systems, process piping, water systems, boilers, compressed air systems, and nitrogen systems to ensure proper performance.

• Monitor and service various process equipment to maintain safe and efficient operation.

• Escort and oversee contractors performing facility repairs such as roofs, floors, doors, walls, office changes, and renovations, ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical rules and site procedures.

• Maintain the shop area, tools, and equipment in an organized and safe condition, including ordering parts, tools, and materials needed for repairs and stock.

• Assist other maintenance personnel and engineers with mechanical, electrical, and facilities tasks as needed.

• Investigate facility issues that require working at heights, including above ceilings, using ladders safely and in accordance with site safety practices.

• Support housekeeping equipment installations and related facility modifications.

• Perform masonry tasks such as patching walls and floors to maintain facility integrity and appearance.

• Use hand and power tools, applying carpentry and general mechanical skills for building and equipment maintenance.

• Read and interpret electrical drawings and P&ID prints to diagnose issues and plan repairs.

• Apply basic industrial electrical troubleshooting, including work with 3-phase systems, under appropriate procedures and guidance.

• Make routine and interpretive decisions in the field to resolve maintenance issues safely and effectively.

• Maintain regular and predictable onsite attendance and punctuality to support continuous facility operations.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by maintenance leadership, which may include tasks outside the typical scope of general maintenance responsibilities.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

• 2–3 years of relevant maintenance, mechanical, or facilities experience.

• Hands-on experience with preventative maintenance and mechanical repair in an industrial or facilities environment.

• Working knowledge of HVAC systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

• Experience with facility maintenance and building maintenance, including general carpentry and masonry tasks.

• Ability to perform maintenance repair using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical prints and P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) prints.

• Basic experience with industrial electrical troubleshooting, including exposure to 3-phase systems.

• Familiarity with boilers, compressed air systems, and nitrogen systems in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

• Ability to perform physical tasks, including continual movement around the facility and lifting 30 to 40 pounds as needed.

• Ability to climb ladders and work above ceilings to investigate facility issues.

• Routine and interpretive decision-making skills to assess issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.

• Comfort working in a highly regulated environment and following established procedures and safety guidelines.

• Reliable, regular onsite attendance and punctuality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Trade school education in HVAC, electrical, or a related field.

• Universal refrigerant license or similar HVAC-related certification.

• 5–10 years of relevant maintenance or facilities experience, ideally in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

• Experience with PLC troubleshooting in an industrial environment.

• Familiarity with industrial environments such as pharmaceutical manufacturing or other clean, controlled facilities.

• Exposure to process piping, water systems, and building utilities in a production setting.

• Experience working with blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.

• Strong organizational skills for managing tools, parts inventory, and work orders.

• Ability to work effectively with contractors and internal teams to coordinate facility projects.

• Willingness to work different shifts as needed to support facility operations.

Work Environment

This position is based in an extremely clean, climate-controlled pharmaceutical manufacturing facility that operates under strict quality and safety standards. You will work with industrial mechanical, HVAC, utilities, and process equipment in a controlled environment designed to support reliable production. The role involves regular movement throughout the facility, use of ladders to access above-ceiling spaces, and hands-on work with tools and equipment. The available shift for this role is Monday through Friday, 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., providing a consistent overnight schedule. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to established procedures to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bedford Heights, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00/hr.
