Full Charge Bookkeeper

Job Summary

A growing construction organization in Poway, CA is seeking a hands-on Full Charge Bookkeeper for a direct hire opportunity. This role is ideal for an experienced bookkeeping professional who understands construction accounting, job costing, subcontractor billing, and the day-to-day financial operations that keep projects running smoothly.

The Full Charge Bookkeeper will work closely with accounting leadership, project managers, and operations teams in a collaborative environment where accuracy, accountability, and teamwork are valued. Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and manage progress billings, including AIA G702/G703 billings, invoices, releases, and related contract billing documentation.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging, support collection efforts, reconcile customer accounts, and maintain accurate month-end and year-end records.
- Review and process subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, project expenses, and job cost allocations to ensure accurate cost tracking.
- Support payroll and labor costing processes, including proper allocation of labor hours to jobs and assistance with prevailing wage requirements when applicable.
- Partner with accounting leadership, project managers, and operations teams to review project financial performance, analyze variances, and prepare cost and profitability reports.
- Maintain organized accounting documentation, support internal controls, and participate in process improvements for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

Compensation and Benefits

- Direct hire opportunity.
- Salary range: $80,000 to $90,000 per year.
- Starting salary: $85,000 per year.
- Compensation review after 90 days.
- Potential opportunity to promote into an Accounting Manager role in the future.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Manage daily bookkeeping operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, and month-end processes.
- Support construction project accounting, including job costing, subcontractor invoicing, cost coding, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and review progress billings, AIA billing documentation, releases, and contract-related accounting records.
- Partner with accounting and operations teams to support project profitability, compliance, and accurate financial reporting.

- 6 to 10 years of related bookkeeping, accounting, or construction accounting experience.
- Required QuickBooks Desktop accounting experience.
- Required subcontractor construction accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
- Experience with job costing, project cost tracking, subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, and construction-related billing.
- Ability to work accurately with financial data, deadlines, contract requirements, and project documentation.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively with accounting, operations, and project management teams.
- Hands-on bookkeeping mindset with the ability to manage daily accounting operations without requiring CPA-level accounting expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Procore.
- Experience with Textura billing and releases.
- Experience with ADP for payroll.
- Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.
- Experience supporting prevailing wage compliance is a plus.
