Job Title: Environmental Services Technician Lead

Department: Environmental Services / Housekeeping & Laundry

Reports To: Environmental Services Manager / Facilities Manager

Schedule: Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week Tuesday - Saturday until July 2027

Position Summary

Exceptional Care for Children (ECC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Services Technician Lead to provide hands-on leadership for housekeeping and laundry operations within our facility. The Lead is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment while ensuring compliance with infection prevention standards, departmental procedures, and regulatory requirements.

In addition to performing environmental services duties, the Lead will serve as a working supervisor by coordinating daily assignments, providing guidance and training to team members, monitoring quality standards, and assisting with departmental operations to ensure exceptional service throughout the facility.

Environmental Services Responsibilities

· Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment throughout assigned areas.

· Follow all infection prevention and isolation precaution policies and procedures.

· Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.

· Prepare and properly use cleaning and disinfecting solutions according to established standards.

· Clean and disinfect patient rooms, bathrooms, common areas, offices, corridors, and treatment spaces.

· Remove trash and soiled linens and replace liners as needed.

· Dust mop, wet mop, scrub, and maintain floors throughout the facility.

· Perform floor care activities including stripping, waxing, buffing, and refinishing as scheduled.

· Clean and sanitize sinks, fixtures, furniture, equipment, walls, ceilings, and overhead surfaces.

· Replenish soap, paper products, sanitizers, and other supplies.

· Assist with wheelchair cleaning and sanitation procedures.

· Maintain equipment storage areas and ensure cleaning equipment is properly maintained and operational.

· Respond to routine and emergency cleaning needs as they arise.

Laundry Responsibilities

· Collect, sort, wash, dry, fold, and distribute linens, clothing, and other laundered items.

· Operate commercial washers, dryers, and laundry equipment safely and efficiently.

· Ensure proper handling of contaminated and isolation linens.

· Monitor laundry quality standards and inventory levels.

· Maintain cleanliness and organization of laundry areas.

Lead Responsibilities

· Assign and coordinate daily work schedules and zone assignments.

· Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and support to Environmental Services staff.

· Conduct quality inspections to ensure departmental standards are consistently met.

· Monitor employee productivity, attendance, punctuality, and adherence to policies and procedures.

· Assist with onboarding and training of new employees.

· Coach team members on proper cleaning techniques, safety practices, infection control standards, and customer service expectations.

· Communicate departmental priorities, staffing needs, and operational concerns to management.

· Ensure adequate supplies, chemicals, and equipment are available for daily operations.

· Assist in managing workflow during high-volume periods, emergencies, and staffing shortages.

· Serve as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and excellent work habits.

· Help investigate and resolve service concerns or environmental issues promptly.

· Participate in departmental meetings, audits, inspections, and regulatory surveys.

· Assist management with performance documentation and corrective action recommendations when necessary.

· Maintain accurate records, checklists, and departmental reports.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

· Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently.

· Ability to operate housekeeping and laundry equipment safely.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Qualifications

Required

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Minimum of 2 years of housekeeping, environmental services, custodial, laundry, or healthcare cleaning experience.

· Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

· Basic computer skills including Microsoft 365 and Outlook.

· Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work independently and lead a team effectively.

Preferred

· Previous lead, supervisory, or team leader experience in Environmental Services.

· Healthcare, long-term care, hospital, rehabilitation, or residential facility experience.

· Knowledge of infection prevention and healthcare cleaning standards.

· Experience with floor care equipment and commercial laundry operations.
