Senior Insurance Accountant

Our client is a premier, fast-growing financial services firm specializing in structure setup and management for specialty insurance and reinsurance entities. In this role, you will take end-to-end ownership of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a dedicated portfolio of client reinsurance entities. This position serves as a key financial lead, combining hands-on technical corporate accounting with client-facing consultative communication. Core Qualifications at a Glance Experience: 5+ years of progressive corporate accounting experience. Industry Background: Minimum 1+ year in insurance accounting required (reinsurance experience strongly preferred). Technical Skills: Full ownership of general ledger (GL), P&L management, month-end closing, balance sheet reconciliations, and journal entry posting. Systems: NetSuite experience is a major plus (currently transitioning ERP systems); advanced MS Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas). Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills to effectively present financial data to executive teams and client stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Financial Statement Preparation & Closing: Lead month-end closing procedures across a designated client portfolio, preparing and auditing both GAAP and Statutory financial statements (including income statements and balance sheets). General Ledger & Reconciliations: Maintain absolute GL integrity by managing monthly account reconciliations, posting documented journal entries, and proactively identifying and rectifying account discrepancies. Client Engagement & Advisory: Function as the primary accounting liaison for assigned accounts, addressing technical client inquiries and explaining complex financial performance metrics. Treasury & Cash Control: Execute detailed monthly bank statement reconciliations, leading investigations into unmatched items or variance trends to guarantee complete transaction accuracy. Operational Collaboration: Partner with internal reporting teams and offshore accounting staff to verify cession/loss statements, streamline entry accuracy, and enhance overall reporting workflows. Audit & Special Projects: Facilitate audit requests for both internal and external parties, participating in ad-hoc financial analysis and workflow optimization projects as required. Required Skills & Credentials Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required. Technical Accounting: In-depth mastery of GAAP, statutory standards, revenue recognition, and full financial statement analysis. Software Proficiency: Advanced Excel capabilities (advanced functions, pivot tables, complex modeling). Familiarity with financial software and ERP platforms (NetSuite preferred).
