Probation and Parole Officer

Title Probation and Parole Officer Agency Department of Corrections, DOC P&P Region II (Anadarko, Oklahoma) Position Summary Probation and Parole Officers supervise adult probationers, parolees, and inmates in re‑entry programs, performing routine professional social service and law enforcement duties. They assess criminogenic needs, design transition plans, refer offenders to treatment, monitor compliance, conduct investigations, prepare reports, and assist with community re‑entry. Key Responsibilities Manage a caseload of adult probationers by completing a scientific assessment of criminogenic risk/need, determining the offender’s stage of change, and referring to appropriate treatment or programs. Monitor activities of offenders to ensure adherence to negotiated action steps and conditions ordered by the releasing authority. Assist offenders in obtaining and maintaining employment and in identifying a pro‑social support network. Conduct investigations, including home visits, pre‑sentence, interstate, pre‑pardon, and pre‑parole. Prepare reports on offender activities, violations, court matters, and provide recommendations to the releasing authority. Maintain documentation of offender caseload in physical or electronic format. Monitor payment of financial obligations required by the releasing authority. Assist in security operations during prison disturbances, arrest and transport offenders, and coordinate out‑of‑state transfers. Conduct periodic screenings for drug and alcohol use. Assist probationers with compliance with the Mary Rippy Violent Crime Registration Act and Sex Offender Registration, if applicable. Qualifications Education and Experience: Level I: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, criminology, education, criminal justice administration, penology or police science, plus 24 semester hours in related fields. Level II: Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in the above areas, plus two years of correctional experience in social casework involving classification, assessment or field supervision; or a master’s degree in the same fields for one year of required work experience. Level III: Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in the above areas, plus four years of correctional experience in social casework, or a master’s degree for one year of required work experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to offenders and the Department of Corrections. Ability to conduct evidence‑based assessment, motivational interviewing, and case management. Familiarity with community resources and re‑entry services. Strong written and oral communication skills. Competency in electronic technology and offender management systems. Capacity to establish effective relationships with communities, families, and service agencies. Special Requirements Willing and able to perform all job‑related travel normally associated with the position and possess a valid driver’s license. Subject to drug testing. Must meet all training and qualifications for peace officers, including any psychological or physical testing required for a basic police course. Eligible for employment only if not convicted of a non‑violent felony, other felony, or disqualifying misdemeanor, and meeting state registration requirements. May be classified as safety sensitive under Oklahoma Statutes 63 O.S. 427.8.
