Job Title : Unit Secretary
Location : Long Beach, CA
Shift : 12 hour night shift, 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Variable days, generally three shifts per week, not a block schedule. Weekend requirement, every other or every third weekend. Schedule posted one month in advance.
Client Overview
You would be joining the clinical support team on an inpatient nursing unit at an acute care hospital in Long Beach. This is a fast paced environment where you work directly alongside nurses and physicians to keep patient information accurate and the unit running smoothly around the clock.
What You'll Do
- Transcribe patient care orders and enter them into the computer system accurately
- File orders, reports, and patient information into medical charts promptly
- Answer phones and communicate clearly with the nursing team, patients, and physicians
- Organize daily clerical work to keep the unit running smoothly
- Support a safe, efficient, and cost effective work environment
- Complete age specific competency requirements for the unit
- Complete all certifications required by the Division of Nursing
- Perform other clerical duties as assigned

What We Need From You
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of a medical terminology course and basic computer training
- One of the following: completion of a formal Unit Secretary program, one semester in an accredited RN program, or a Certified Nursing Assistant credential
- Current CPR certification
- Comfortable working a 12 hour night shift with a rotating weekend requirement
Preferred / Bonus
- Prior experience as a Unit Secretary or Health Unit Coordinator in an acute care hospital setting
