General Medicine PCU RN Job Breakdown

Shift: 3x12 Nights (18:45–07:15)
Weekly Hours: 36 hrs
Unit: General Medicine PCU (10 PCU Beds + 2 ICU Beds)
Charting: EPIC
Ratio: Typically 1:5 (Goal 1:4)

Core Responsibilities

• Direct PCU Patient Care: ~18–20 hrs/week
  Managing patients with DKA, COPD, Sepsis, Renal Failure, Chronic Respiratory Failure, and Overdose/Suicide cases.
• Ventilator & Trach Care: ~5–6 hrs/week
  Caring for chronic trach and ventilator-dependent patients, respiratory assessments, and airway management.
• Cardiac Monitoring & Drip Management: ~5–6 hrs/week
  Telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia recognition, emergency response, and cardiac drips (non-titratable).
• IV Therapy & Procedures: ~3–4 hrs/week
  Blood administration, phlebotomy, central/peripheral line care, medication administration.
• Documentation & Care Coordination: ~3–4 hrs/week
  EPIC charting, interdisciplinary communication, care planning, and discharge coordination.

Key Requirements

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required
• Ventilator experience required
• EPIC experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• Active VA or Compact RN license preferred (pending accepted under specific conditions)
• Strong telemetry and PCU/Stepdown experience

Unit Highlights

• Hybrid unit with PCU and ICU-level beds
• Chronic trach/vent patient population
• Remote telemetry monitoring on unit
• Floating required within skill set
• Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated teaching hospital
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule block
• One holiday required per 13-week contract
