In this position, you'll manage critical accounting functions including payroll, bank reconciliations, month-end close, financial reporting, and audit support while collaborating with departments across the organization. ACCOUNTABILITIES

Payroll & Benefits

• Work collaboratively with human resources to administer payroll, benefits, and leave accruals in compliance with GSCCC and federal regulations. Keep current regarding payroll system and wage and tax law changes.
• Prepare, reconcile, and transmit bi-weekly payroll. Post general ledger journal entry.
• Process staff withholdings (loans, garnishments, voluntary deductions) in an accurate and timely manner.

Financial Reporting

• Lead the month-end closing process by performing reconciliations between subsidiary systems (Momentive MIP, Raiser's Edge, NetSuite) and the general ledger and recording necessary adjusting journal entries.
• Analyze and distribute monthly department income and expense reports. Review data for inaccuracies and variances from budget. Work collaboratively with departments to identify and correct discrepancies.
• Execute monthly reconciliations for all bank and investment accounts.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, including the balance sheet, statement of activities, and department income and expense reports for management review. Analyze financial results and investigate variances to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Develop, update, and maintain detailed accounting schedules (net assets, investments, prepaid expenses, etc.) and workpapers to ensure a seamless annual external audit.
• Support the annual budget process by coordinating departmental reports and ensuring accurate system integration.
• Work collaboratively with the Finance Specialist, Philanthropy Specialist, and Grants Manager.
• Track restricted and unrestricted net assets to keep financial reporting accurate and compliant.
• Post other journal entries as needed.

Other Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service to internal staff by responding to accounting and payroll questions in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist in the preparation of audit materials as requested.
• Maintain strong internal controls by ensuring appropriate documentation, segregation of duties, and compliance with council financial policies and procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, increase efficiency, and strengthen financial controls.
• Actively support and promote the Council's commitment to excellent customer service, membership growth, community visibility, fundraising, diversity, and safety.

Requirements

Education, Experience, & Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience with accounting or finance. Non-profit fund accounting preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent technical computer skills in Microsoft Office 365, especially proficient in Excel. Ability to learn new software as required. Knowledge of Paylocity, Momentive MIP, and NetSuite recommended.
• Deep understanding of GAAP, general ledger structures, and financial statement mechanics. Strong organizational skills to manage strict monthly and annual deadlines.
• Knowledge of FLSA, IRS and ERISA regulations regarding wages, benefits and taxes.
• Excellent organizational skills, great attention to detail, and strong commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrated commitment and ability to interact with diverse populations.

Additional Requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT


The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls including the operation of computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine and other office equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; bend and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear within normal range for telephone use. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal, preparing and analyzing data and figures, and extensive reading.
