About the Role The General Laborer reports to the Project Manager or Lead Technician at Bermex. This position will play a key role in preparing meter pits for installation of new meters and assisting with meter box replacements. This position requires a high degree of organization and excellent attention to detail. Time management and caution to not break any meters or pipes, must keep the surrounding area clean of debris. What You'll Do Cleaning Out Pits Digging and removing dirt, disposing of properly Use of shovels and trenching shovels Pumping Out Flooded Pits Use of manual or battery pumps to remove dirt and water from meter pits Sometimes as much as two five-gallon buckets of dirt will be removed from each pit and need to be disposed of properly at a separate location. Meter Box Replacements Digging out and proper disposal of broken meter boxes Use of shovels Ground remediation of disturbed ground around meter box replacement Meter box replacements require the use of shovels and trenching shovels to remove the old box and then a shovel and rake to backfill the site and ground restoration. The old pits will need to be disposed of in a separate location. Other duties as assigned. About You Minimum Qualifications Education: None required Experience: No experience necessary. Employees will be trained. Must possess a valid driver's license. Preferred Qualifications Education: High School Degree/GED Experience: Experience in working in outdoor conditions. Must possess a valid driver's license. Desired Skills Ability to multi-task and work independently as well as a team Exceptional flexibility in daily routines and route scheduling Adequate time management skills to finish daily assignments in a timely manner, figuring out an efficient way to accomplish assignments for that day Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting with management and customers Ability to interact with unhappy or negative customers in a professional manner Excellent attention to detail for problem solving and finding Ability to walk long distances and prepare for weather conditions, accordingly This position requires bending, stooping, twisting, crouching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. repetitively throughout their shift.
